Vitro Packaging, Inc. and The Coca-Cola Company have teamed up to develop a 12 oz. resealable glass bottles with the iconic Coca-Cola contour bottle shape for the brand’s beverages.

"Consumer preferences for pure and sustainable packaging is leading many consumers to return to glass because of its inert characteristics and endless recyclability,” says Joseph Cattaneo, president of the Glass Packaging Institute. “To meet this demand, more and more consumer packaged goods manufacturers are choosing glass for new product introductions, purity and sustainable positioning.”

According to a 2006 survey conducted by Newton Marketing & Research of Norman, Oklahoma, consumers prefer glass packaging for maintaining the purity of food and beverages (78%), preserving a product’s taste or flavor (75%) and maintaining the integrity or healthiness of foods and beverages (82%).

With this new 12 oz. glass bottle, according to a press release, Coca-Cola is continuing to pursue internal policies and goals, which include increasing their recycling and/or recovery of 90% of the output from its production facilities by the year 2010 and/or the recycling the equivalent of all of its packaging.

The bottle is decorated with a wrap around label, and comes in a full color six pack carrier.
