DuPont presented 16 awards recognizing packaging excellence at its 26th DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation. For 2014, Unilever took the Diamond Award top honor for its line of compressed deodorants. The international panel of judges recognized Unilever for excellence in all three award criteria—technological advancement, responsible packaging and enhanced user experience. Unilever’s new containers carry the same amount of product in a package half the size of the original. The smaller packages meet airline carry-on requirements, allow retailers to stock more products on the same shelf space and significantly cut transportation costs as more units fit on a pallet and into each truck. In addition to the Diamond Award, the panel of independent judges selected five gold winners and 10 silver winners representing 11 countries.

LiquiGlide is a new, permanently wet coating technology that enables viscous liquids—such as lotions, gels, shampoos and more—to slide right out of their bottles. This coating technology combines a textured solid layer and an impregnating liquid that is held in place by strong capillary forces. It is not a single material, and each unique coating is custom-designed for each application. The choices for solids and liquids number in the thousands and are selected for the properties they display in experiments with different viscous liquids. For example, beauty products have specific safety requirements, so materials already deemed safe for human consumption can be investigated during coating research. The finished coating can be completely harmless, non-toxic and even edible if the application requires it. It works for many different surfaces, including glass, plastic, ceramic and metal, and LiquiGlide has more than six coatings completely ready for market testing and is actively working with clients to implement the technology for specific applications. To maintain the freshness and effectiveness of the sensitive contents of its Cellular Line & Wrinkle Filler product, beauty brand Skincode worked with Neopac to utilize its Polyfoil tube to protect them. The Polyfoil tube is a proven combination of aluminium and PE through which oxygen, moisture and other chemicals cannot penetrate. On the Skincode tube, the silver metallic cap conceals the SoftTips applicator Pinpoint, which transmits the product precisely to the required spot. The silicone tip guarantees precise and clean application. It also closes directly after use so the contents always remain hygienically pure.
