Innovation from Monaco, Lipstick Packs, and More Beauty Packaging News and Launches for Late October 2013

Anisa International is marking 10 years of innovation and production at its wholly owned manufacturing plant in Tianjin, China. Through its history, Anisa Cosmetic Applicators Tianjin, or Anisa Tianjin as the plant is most often called, has supported community building and philanthropy in the village. In November, Anisa International staff will travel to the plant to celebrate, awarding Hong Kong trips and other prizes to manufacturing workers. Anisa Tianjin provides end-to-end quality control and allows Anisa International to quickly take new products from conception to production.

The eco-friendly Eden airless packaging range from Aptar Beauty + Home has been awarded certification of compliance has having achieved Ecocert and Cosmos natural and organic cosmetic standards.

Albéa announced it will open a new mascara pack manufacturing site in Bottanuco, Italy, in 2014. The expansion and integration of two existing sites (Verderio and Imbersago) will offer customers better speed to market, further flexibility and supply chain efficiency. The facility will be home to a dedicated brush development section, as well as a comprehensive brush library with both fiber and plastic brushes. Additionally, Albéa announced a €22 million investment its tubes facility in Argonne, France. The facility will include four primary areas of production: caps, laminate tubes, small diameter plastic tubes, and premium plastic tubes for the prestige market.

The full range of Mega Airless’ brand-building, in-house decoration techniques were showcased at Luxe Pack Monaco 2013, including its double-shell technique (created in cooperation with Louvrette Design and Packaging) for brands such as Rituals, Maria Galland and Neosino; its in-house hot-stamping as an alternative to metallization; four-color silk-screening; lacquering; metallization; heat transfer labeling; customized caps and pumps; and swirl-filling.

DieterBakic displayed its Aqua Airless and Cosima Airless packs, as well as its Viola pump, at the 2013 Luxe Pack Monaco event.

Gerresheimer presented its glass and plastic design concepts for beauty and cosmetic products and perfumes at Luxe Pack Monaco 2013 too. Gerresheimer has European cosmetic glass and plastic production facilities in Belgium, Germany and Spain, and the experts from Momignies, Tettau and Zaragoza will be presented their innovative product ranges at the event. Featured products include the Otto Kern Luxury glass flacon, which has an unconventional U-shaped design that is distinctive, yet elegantly simple; and the Omega, Ro and Alpha designs in trendy colors, which are new additions to the Gerresheimer personal care collection.

TricorBraun is partnered with Alpha Packaging, ‎Mold-Rite Plastics and Aptar Group to offer the latest jar innovations, including the popular dispensing jar lids.

The New Jersey Packaging Executives Club is holding its annual Package of the Year Awards banquet on November 14, 2013. The event honors the manufacturers of the industry’s best designs and innovations, and a distinguished panel of judges selected the 2013 Package of the Year award winners—Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds Holiday 2013 (produced by Color Optics by Arcade) for the Package of the Year Award; and the Signature Brushes by Laura Mercier for the Student's Choice Selection. Additional winners will be named at the event.

New Launches

At Luxe Pack Monaco 2013, Promens launched its concept of a premium airless jar with the new Slidissime. In a world where touchscreen technology is everywhere, Promens has gone beyond the traditional airless technology and invented a tactile touch-and-slide pump that combines modernity, ergonomics and sensuality in one jar. Slidissime is equipped with a refined touch-and-slide pump; it allows fully protected beauty creams to be released by a simple slide. By a simple slide on the membrane, a dose is delivered by the system through its thin hole. Located at the extremity of the touch-and-slide pump, this hole closes after each dosage, avoiding any air intake and drying of the formula. The formulation has contact neither with air nor with fingers. Slidissime guarantees protection from oxidation, UV rays and other external contaminations during its entire usage.

OekaBeauty’s innovation team has brought out its latest development: Velvet Caress. The pack offers a new possibility to apply gloss on the lips or other liquids on the skin. It’s a combination of the characteristic features of applicators and brushes, and the flocked application area provides a large and soft surface while at the same time, flexible segments adapt perfectly to the contours like a brush. Velvet Caress can be used for formulations such as lip gloss, cream, concealer and powder. Thanks to a unique patent pending cutting system invented by OekaBeauty, different cuts can be realized on several applicator shapes.

Albéa debuted new packaging innovations at Luxe Pack Monaco 2013, including its new Panache platform, which is a portfolio of packaging solutions that controls the size and dispersion of formula particles from spray beauty products. For fragrance market, Panache is developed with a specific version of Albéa’s XD11, and for other markets—body mists, hair care, skin care—Panache is developed with the SP22 engine. The company also expanded its stock pack lipstick possibilities with the launch of its new four-way bullet shape options. Specially designed for high-precision application and perfectly defined lips, the shapes include Square, Teardrop, Elliptic and Kiss Liner, all crafted of ABS and designed for high-speed top-filling. With their original and glamorous designs, the Square’s diamond-shaped as well as the high-fashion Teardrop and trendy Elliptic. The chic, arty Kiss Liner is a lipstick allowing the combination of two formulas in the same mechanism.

New on the Shelves

Topline Products is displaying its work on Lancôme‘s lipstick collection, L’Absolu Rouge, at LuxePack Monaco 2013. The chic lipstick packaging is produced by Topline in two versions, one metallized in shiny gold and the other black lacquered. In addition to the iconic brand’s emblematic rose, the decorations on the packaging are eye-catching images of voluptuous lips and the Eiffel Tower, pad printed in black for the gold version, and hot-stamped in shiny gold, for the black version. The lipstick cases are constructed with a low-profile magnetic closure that is so smooth in action that it feels virtually automatic to the user. This feature also has a purely practical advantage because it ensures the case will always close properly, guaranteeing the product will be contained and protected.

Albéa helped create the luxury brand's new Rouge Dior product. This product has been built on a complex design and incorporates Albéa’s expertise in hot stamping and injection, featuring a new Dior dark blue, fluting, and a jewel-like, engraved finish. In addition, the lipstick features the Albéa’s R2000 mechanism for its smooth operation.
