Fusion Packaging co-CEO Jonathan Gross has been selected as one of the "40 Under Forty" executives by the Dallas Business Journal. The award is given out annually to 40 young business leaders—namely entrepreneurs and executives—making waves in their respective industries such as media, law, fashion and technology. Gross is being honored alongside many of the distinguished and successful leaders in the Dallas area. Gross co-founded Fusion Packaging in 2004 with partner Derek Harvey, and he currently oversees operations including the design, engineering and manufacturing side of the business.
Luxe Pack New York announced it will relocate to Pier 92 for its next edition, May 14–15, 2014. The new venue will allow all the exhibitors and attractions to be positioned on the same floor.
Taiki Group announced a partnership with global makeup professional Matthew Waitesmith. Waitesmith is currently a consultant for new ventures in the beauty and design industries. His unique, vast knowledge of product application greatly aligns with Taiki’s philosophy. “We are continually looking to use design and science to enhance the consumer experience. Partnering with Matthew has further given Taiki insight into the application experience,” stated Jim Perry, president and CEO, TaikiUSA. Waitesmith is well known in the industry for his years at MAC Cosmetics as the senior vice president, global artist training and development.
Gerresheimer reported its financials for Q2 2013. The company increased revenues 4.2% to €327.1 million for the quarter.
Iggesund Paperboard launched an e-commerce solution in the U.S. for the direct sale of Invercote, with payment by credit card and distribution via courier.
MGI Digital Graphic Technology, the manufacturer of digital printing and finishing solutions, announced its JETvarnish 3D inkjet spot UV coater received the 2013 InterTech Technology Award from the Printing Industries of America.
Taiki Group announced Pat Weiman has joined TaikiUSA as an account manager. Wiman has worked at global CPG companies in packaging leadership roles and later moved into sales for cosmetic and personal care, where she worked with accounts such as Nars, Avon and Laura Geller. At Taiki, she will focus on accounts such as Proctor & Gamble and Avon, as well as continue to build the TaikiUSA partner network.
Anisa International featured several of its cutting-edge products and collections for 2013, including the patent-pending Retractable Lip Glider, at the 2013 Cosmoprof North America. The Lip Glider is available as a single or double-sided tool with a design that allows lip color to glide on effortlessly, utilizing the signature curve of the brush head and the unique tip to fill in color and line the lip in one easy step. Also showcased were the wide-domed brush Complexion Collection; the patented, interchangeable, stackable brushes of the Magnetics Collection; the Contour Collection, including the patented Concurve Liner brushes; the neon-colored Titanium Ferrules brushes with synthetic hair; and several more.
Qosmedix added two new miniature airless bottles ideal for product testing, travel or promotional giveaways, to its collection of offerings. Made from durable polypropylene, these white airless pump bottles with clear overcaps are available in two different sizes, 5 ml and 10 ml. The airless technology helps maintain the efficacy of creams and lotions, while ensuring that the product is dispensed down to the last drop. They also can be customized to help promote beauty brands.
The Lindal Group debuted Sunny, its new twist-lock, overcap-free actuator, representing an appealing new alternative for makers of deodorants and antiperspirants, sun protection and self-tanning products and more. The Sunny actuator’s ergonomic design was developed for easy actuation and high top-load resistance, for use in a wide range of personal care product applications. Additionally, the new actuator is the first to be produced at the company’s new Itupeva facility in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
LumsonGroup launched L4Belle, a new venture that offers lip gloss and color cosmetic packaging solutions. Either standard to customized, these primary packaging solutions for the color cosmetic market take advantage of the manufacturing capabilities and expertise of Lumson and extol its values. The new lip gloss pack launches are named after some of the most beautiful women of all time, and the options include Julia, Scarlett, Megan, Brigitte, Sophia, Angie, Keira and Liv. The collection is available with a wide range of classic, rigid, flocked, flexible flocked or brush applicators. Just choose the shape/design and decorations that fit your brand, and L4Belle will do the rest, delivering ready-to-fill packaging.
Toly presented a new terracotta compact called Cotta. The compact is available in two platform versions, an eye shadow with applicator and a blush. It is a three-piece pack with a domed lid and a mirror on the inside. Also, it is available with a matte or shiny lid, and can be easily personalized to the specifications of any customer.
Brookfield Engineering introduced the TA-GPJ–General Peeling Jig. It was developed to measure the force required to peel the lid off a sealed container.A strong adhesive bond is critical to preventing contamination and spoilage, but ease and consistency when opening is equally important to consumers. Manufacturers understand that finding the right lid strength is one more factor that contributes to customer satisfaction and loyalty. The General Peeling Jig can be adjusted to remove the lid at 0°, 45° or 90°. The TA-GPJ is used to measure the lid strength for a growing number of applications.
New on the Shelves
The Seventeen On The Spot Foundation is using the protection of a Yonwoo airless barrier tube, developed by cosmetic packaging provider Quadpack. The foundation’s hard-working formulation is shielded from external contaminants by Yonwoo’s airless technology. This helps prevent oxidation while an aluminum barrier effectively blocks out light. The inner foil acts as a barrier to light, gas and moisture and is impermeable to organic and chemical substances. The sleek-looking tube is color-matched in shiny silver, with no visible side seam, and branding and lettering are applied in black, using one-pass silk screening. A simple black cap completes the pack, allowing the product to stand upright.
Aptar Home + Beauty provided its Twist-to-Lock Moritz accessory for Sephora’s SPF 30 Sunscreen Body Mist. The package sprays at any angle—even upside down—ensuring all over, complete coverage. Also, the Victoria's Secret Hello Darling Instant Glow Bronzing Mousse is packaged in an airless, Bag On Valve system and dispensed by the Wren accessory, both supplied by Aptar Beauty + Home, to protect the formula integrity and ensure a premium user experience; and the Neuma NeuStyling Smoothing Crème is topped with the Flamingo lotion dispenser from Aptar Beauty + Home while the Neuma NeuRepair Argan Treatment is topped with the Cardinal lotion dispenser from Aptar Beauty + Home. Additionally, the Ibis lotion dispenser from Aptar Beauty + Home was used for Jack Black’s Epic Moisture Extra Rich Body Hydrator with Shea Butter, Coffee Seed & Organic Green Tea and its Clean Cream Body Wash with Ginger Root, Argan Oil & Organic Olive Lea; and all the products from the Salongrafix Chroma-Logica line are dispensed with closures and pressurized accessories from Aptar Beauty + Home: the Hair Spray uses the AR200 accessory on Aptar’s VX valve, the shampoo and conditioner are topped with a 2” disc top, and the Styling Créme is shelved in an inverted tube, with stability ensured by Aptar’s Classic tube top closure.
Beiersdorf announced the global launch of its new concept of body moisturizer, and at a very early design stage, Global Closure Systems was awarded the role of global lead developer and supplier of closures for Nivea’s new In-Shower Body Moisturiser. The key criteria in Beiersdorf’s choice were GCS design capability, short lead time and technical performance, along with GCS expertise in producing the moulds in-house at Zeller Engineering in Germany. In addition, the bi-injected closures are produced by Global Closure Systems in its Obrist plant near Madrid, only 50 kilometers away from Beiersdorf's production site dedicated to skin care products. The bottle comes in different sizes from 200 ml to 600 ml depending on the country. The packaging has been designed to be ready and convenient to use thanks to its headstand cap and its high-quality Zeller Plastik hinge, which opens at 180°. Beiersdorf also required a bi-injected hinge closure, perfectly fitting with the bottle to provide a monoblock look.
Axilone, an Ileos company, announced L’Oréal’s luxury products division chose the packaging supplier to develop packs for two new prestige lipsticks. The Yves Saint Laurent Pure Couture is a beautiful golden lipstick based on YSL design. The cubic shapes with perfect angles is achieved in aluminum with a deep stamped cap, and the decoration is anodized gold. The logo is engraved partially and covered with a red silk-screen. And for the Rouge d’Armani, Axilone created a pack that is deep black, inside and outside, with a pure white-hot-stamped logo. For the new version of the sculptural magnetic lipstick, Axilone utilizes two conic parts that are perfectly adjusted when closing, giving the impression of finesse and precision.
