Web Videos, French Innovation, New Collections, Cap Technology and More Beauty Packaging News for Late March 2013

Qosmedix recently released its fourth in a series of web videos. For this latest edition, the company partnered with celebrity makeup artist Eve Pearl to discuss the benefits of using Qosmedix single use applicators and professional tools to help maintain hygienic practices during makeup application. Featured items include spatulas, sponges, mascara wands, spray bottles, false eyelashes and professional makeup brushes.

Qosmedix also officially launched its Facebook page, where the company is able to interact directly with fans and customers while posting current industry news and trends along with the latest Qosmedix developments.

The Lindal Group launched a new global innovation center, a facility designed to leverage the company’s global aerosol expertise and further support customers in development of new generation packaging solutions. The new center, based in Briey, France and managed by Hervé Bodet, is designed as an R&D hub that will improve time-to-market, speed commercialization of new products and enhance overall quality. The hub structure is characterized by a strong center, where all research and advanced development activities are based, and local satellites, which focus upon pre-defined technological fields with a regional context, which assures optimal local market expertise.

New Launches

adesign redesigned its ultimate 14-piece set to incorporate all of its top-selling brushes. This flagship collection is the brush provider’s most professional arrangement, and the super chic set includes a black clutch that can hold up to 20 brushes, perfect for an entire brush collection. The carefully selected material can be easily cleaned, and it features a snap closure and extra pockets for quick and easy storage. The set itself includes the XL Powder Brush, Finishing Contour, Flat Top Foundation, Foundation Brush, Accent Brush, Contour Brush, All Over Eye, Angled Eye, Concurve Liner, Eye 1, Pointed Concealer, Finishing Crease, Eye 5 and Eye 4 brushes.

SeaCliff Beauty Packaging & Laboratories introduced a new airless component designed as a syringe to specifically target problematic areas on the face. The syringe has a silicone tip applicator, as well as an overcap to protect the product when not in use and prevent contamination. This unique dispensing component allows for precise application of the product as the user can control the dosage amount and because of its airless technology, almost 100% of the product can be evacuated. The silicone tip can be also used to massage the product over the targeted area without causing further stretching or touching of the skin. The airless syringe component is made out of PCTG, PP and silicone material. It can be injection molded or custom color sprayed with decoration options of silkscreen, heat transfer, and hot stamp to create a truly unique component, and it is available in both 6.5 and 15 ml capacity.

Lumson debuted APP Airless Plastic Packaging, a new airless system created entirely in Italy that utilizes the airless pouch technology paired with bright and thick cylindrical plastic bottles. Available in 30 and 50 ml, the bottles can be customized to fit customer and product needs, and the PP plastic bottle can be easily customized with different shapes as Lumson’s Airless Pouch Technology can be applied to any kind of bottle design. The system is available with a single or multilayer pouch to supply as standard or with an extra barrier option, and it works well for skin care formulas or makeup liquid foundations and primers.

Albéa introduced a new full range of beauty packaging solutions, including integrated airless tube + pump packs, which offer a high-protection and cost-efficient format. These new offerings aim to help customers simplify product development efforts, shorten supply chains and build their brands. They offer an extensive range of customization options, including decoration technologies such as flexography, silkscreen, offset and hot stamping, and in terms of dispensers, the SP343 offers a wide range of finishes and actuator designs, and the ability to handle a wide range of viscosities. The Nea’s 100% neutrality provides additional protection for delicate formulations and its high suction rate and soft actuation handles even the highest viscosities.

M&H Plastics announced the addition of a new stylish bottle shape to its portfolio of standard products. The 200 ml Eternal is manufactured in HDPE and has a gently flared shape with softly rounded shoulders. The 24/410 neck takes a large selection of standard closures which can totally change the appearance of the product. The Eternal packaging is suitable for a wide range of markets but its elegant shape makes it ideal for the premium sector.

New on Shelves

TricorBraun sourced the bottles, tubes, jars and components for AG Hair. The strategy was to identify stock packaging that would give the appearance of exclusive custom-designed containers. The objective was achieved by providing AG Hair with a family of elegantly frosted white bottles, jars and tubes with a soft touch finish that have been silk screened with sage green and dark gray embellishments.

Bogart Group recently launched Carven Le Parfum, a new women’s fragrance from Carven. For the new creation, Bogart partnered with Topline Products, which supplied the cap for the bottle. The frosted glass bottle, which recalls laboratory vials, has a minimalist and elegant cap, created by Topline Products-Primapack in surlyn. Like glass, it is smooth and transparent, and an invisible PP insert guarantees total impermeability. The insert is hidden by an electroplated zamak-injected ring with grooves in shiny gold that recall a jewel.

The new Neutrogena Beach Defense Sunscreen Spray Broad Spectrum SPF 30 with Helioplex Technology uses the distinctive Moritz actuator from Aptar Beauty + Home, helping to make the package ultra-portable. Moritz’s clean, twist-lock feature makes it safe to toss in a beach bag or sports kit without chance of unwanted actuation. Additionally, for Bodycology’s Shimmer Fragrance Mist, Aptar Beauty + Home provided a bright metal-shelled EuroMist spray pump, and for the Pantene Pro-V Overnight Miracle Repair Serum, Aptar Beauty + Home used its Contemporary Lotion Pump with a stepped closure to offer a Dosage of one cc per stroke.

DuPont’s Surlyn, a resin used in caps and bottles for beauty brands, was the material chosen by L’acqua di Fiori for the cover of its new collection. Inspired by traditional American cupcakes, the perfumery has launched the Cupcake Me line for tween consumers, on sale in all L'acqua di Fiori stores in Brazil. The packaging creation was planned by L’acqua de Fiori marketing team and Abner Brito, the company's designer. To stick to the traditional American cupcake image, the designer has chosen a standard glass bottle decorated with two EVA layers and closed by a red cherry-shaped cap.The Surlyn resin was ideal for the composition of the rounded-shaped caps symbolizing the cherry as the brand´s main purpose is adherence to the fragrance and the original cupcake packaging.

M&H Plastics worked with Allison A/S, Denmark, on its innovative range of hand wash products called Scandinavian Purity designed by Jacob Jensen. M&H worked in partnership with Allison to create an exclusive custom-molded hand wash product contained in a soap dispenser, which was inspired by the Scandinavian lifestyle. The elegant soap dispenser is injection molded in two parts containing a refillable blowmolded dispenser. The collection comprises four 200 ml variants—Black Rock, Crystal White, Grey Platin and Red Rosso—each formulated with delicate notes of natural fragrance.

Qosmedix announced Courtney Molloy as the new marketing and sales assistant for the Qosmedix marketing team.

HCP Packaging appointed Damien Dossin president of HCP Packaging USA, Inc. Dossin will assume responsibility for the Americas and is tasked with building the sales team, growing revenue with existing customers, and supporting new business development. He will also handle global business coordination with HCP teams in the U.K., France and Asia. He is a seasoned sales and marketing executive with experience in packaging, cosmetics and consumer goods. He joins HCP from Topline Products, where he was vice president of sales and marketing, generating significant sales growth during his tenure there. Prior to Topline, Dossin spent eight years with RT Sourcing/LF Beauty as vice president of the beauty division in North America, leading double digit growth year-on-year through his efforts.
