Growth at Estée Lauder Means Expanded Positions for Jane Lauder, Peter Lichtenthal

The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. announced Jane Lauder and Peter Lichtenthal will each assume additional responsibilities as part of the company’s strategic organizational redesign previously announced in mid-November 2012. The continuing organizational evolution reflects a move to keep pace with the company’s global growth since 2009. These appointments become effective January 1, 2013.

Fabrizio Freda, president and CEO of The Estée Lauder Companies Inc., stated, “We are a dynamic organization, evolving as the skills of our company grow. Jane and Peter are exceptional global brand leaders who consistently maximize opportunities across regions and channels to deliver outstanding results. The additional responsibilities we are announcing for our leaders celebrate their strengths and, at the same time, provide them growth opportunities that make our business exciting.”

Jane Lauder, global president and general manager of the Origins and Ojon brands, will now add Darphin to her brand leadership responsibilities. This evolution recognizes both her strategic and operational strengths, as well as her track record in developing certain of the company’s turnaround brands. Lauder will continue to report to Lynne Greene, who takes on her new role as group president of Clinique, Origins, Ojon, Aveda and Darphin on January 1, 2013. Greene also will remain president of the Clinique brand. “Jane is intelligent, focused, tenacious and determined to lead her teams to success. She has done a brilliant job with her brands, especially with Origins around the world. We are proud she will take on this new responsibility,” said Greene.

Recognizing his achievements as president of trend-setting professional hair care brand Bumble and Bumble and his previous experience in senior marketing roles within the Estée Lauder brand and MAC Cosmetics, Peter Lichtenthal will now also oversee Smashbox. At Smashbox, Lichtenthal will drive integration, further linking the brand with the company’s global marketing and commercial capabilities. Lichtenthal will now report to John Demsey, group president of Estée Lauder, MAC, Tom Ford Beauty, Prescriptives, Bobbi Brown, La Mer, Jo Malone and Smashbox. Demsey will add Bumble and Bumble to his responsibilities on January 1, 2013. “Peter Lichtenthal has over 20 years’ brand-building experience with The Estée Lauder Companies. His recent direction of Bumble and Bumble has taken the brand to new horizons in fashion, innovation and specialty retailing. Peter will be an excellent addition to the Smashbox leadership team, advancing the strategic development of this growing brand,” said Demsey.
