Macy's Names Hal Lawton as the Company's New President

After experiencing underwhelming performance during the past few years, Macy's is hoping that a change in leadership will help turn things around. 

The company has appointed Hal Lawton to the role of president, effective September 8. His responsibilities will include merchandising, marketing, stores, operations, technology and consumer insights and analytics. 

Prior to joining Macy's Lawton served as the senior vice president at eBay North America. He also spent time with Home Depot and McKinsey & Company.  

Lawton commented on his new role by saying, “At a time when there is both dramatic change and great potential in retail, I’m excited to be part of the team that will shape the future of the Macy’s brand and, along with it, consumer expectations of what a great omnichannel experience can be. I look forward to working with Jeff [Gennette], the management team and Macy’s associates across the country. It’s great to play a part in the transformation of this iconic company.”
