Report: Brands to Feel Bigger Pinch Coming from Walmart

According to a recent report from Cincinnati Enquirer, Walmart is toughening its pricing negotiations with suppliers.

Seeking to bolster its position as a low-price leader and respond to lowered profit outlooks, the retailer is looking to make sharper cost cuts.

The report notes:

"Management did say that in many instances, Walmart had strayed from its focus on price leadership and that it needed to be recovered through sharper EDLP (Every Day Low Prices)," said Ali Dibadj, a New York City-based Sanford Bernstein analyst, in a note to investors this month. "We get the impression from (Walmart) management that negotiations with suppliers will be tougher."
