Sabinsa announced Jayasankar (Jay) Nair has joined the company as CEO, based in the company’s East Windsor, New Jersey, headquarters. Nair was previously part of the Sabinsa team as CFO from 2001 to 2010, lending to his extensive knowledge of the Industry. Nair spent 23 years with the State Bank of India in senior assignments specializing in marketing, business development, training and HR activities. He took up challenging roles in setting up the Centurion Bank, followed by a stint with IndusInd Bank. After his nine years as Sabinsa’s CFO, he was recruited to set up a U.S. company for the large and diverse Muthoot Group, a 126-year-old company based in India. He is also a well-known speaker in the banking industry, giving lectures on effective communication and marketing.

The Lubrizol Corporation hired Reema Shah as regional account manager in the U.S. East Coast for its Lipotec subsidiary, as part of its skin care strategy. Shah´s primary responsibility will be the continual development of Lipotec peptides and marine-based cosmetic ingredients in the region. She has broad sales and technical experience with specialty raw materials in the U.S. beauty and personal care industry.

New Launches

With SymSave H, Symrise launches a nature-identical, multifunctional ingredient. Its antioxidant, soothing, emulsion-stabilizing and preservative-boosting properties make it an ideal component for all types of skin and hair care formulations. Beauty product developers find it challenging to protect and stabilize formulations like high SPF sunscreens, non-ionic emulsions, shampoos and shower gels. To address these needs, Symrise developed a multifunctional ingredient, SymSave H, which combines properties to help enhance the efficacy of a wide range of preservatives and protect a range of formulations.

Dow Consumer & Industrial Solutions introduced a moisturizing complex comprised of hyaluronic acid and polyquaternium-67. MoistStar HA+ Moisturizing Technology adds the company's deposition aid to hyaluronic acid for longer lasting moisturization than just hyaluronic acid alone. In addition to improving moisturizing performance, the complex is a liquid, making it easier to handle and incorporate into skin care formulations than hyaluronic acid powder. It can be used for facial moisturizing creams and gels. hand and body creams, anti-aging serums, skin treatment complexes and more.

Naturex offers beauty brands a sustainable option when it comes to formulating products without palm oil. Its range of liquid glycerin-based botanical extracts is now 100% palm-free. Since May 2013, glycerin derived from palm has been replaced by a new source of rapeseed-derived glycerin in all botanical extracts formulated for the beauty industry by Naturex. This rapeseed-derived glycerin is a by-product of green chemistry bio-fuels in Europe.

Lucas Meyer Cosmetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Unipex Group, acquired the portfolio of cosmetic ingredients and related intellectual property rights of Biopharmacopae Design International from Avrio Ventures L.P. Located in Québec City, Biopharmacopea Design International is specialized in the research and development of new cosmetic active ingredients and products derived from plant extracts. Lucas Meyer Cosmetics and Biopharmacopae Design International have been working together since 2010 developing sophisticated botanical cosmetic active ingredients. With this acquisition, Lucas Meyer Cosmetics now owns Biophamacopae Design International’s intellectual property on cosmetic active ingredients that are already on the market and gains access to an important pipeline of unique botanical active ingredients. This acquisition is in line with Lucas Meyer Cosmetics’s growth strategy as it demonstrates the drive to growth its proprietary products.

As part of its continued international expansion, Solabia Group established a German subsidiary, Solabia GmbH, in Saarbrücken, Germany. This strategic location offers Solabia the opportunity to conquer a new market favorable to the technologically advanced and environmentally friendly ingredients that characterize the Solabia product line.

Sun Chemical Performance Pigments made an investment in Brazil and Latin America by expanding its dedicated regional sales and service team, local warehousing, and lab support there for its pigment products dedicated to the coatings, cosmetics, inks, plastics and specialties markets. Sun Chemical is increasing its dedicated local service people in the region to help customers with technical issues, quality control, and commercial development for a range of products.

The improved site employs state-of-the-art web technology and offers customers ready access to comprehensive information about Coast Southwest and the company’s portfolio of surfactants, silicones, and personal care specialties.

DKSH Business Unit Performance Materials strengthened its presence in Asia by expanding its infrastructure in China. The company inaugurated a state-of-the-art personal care innovation center in Guangzhou, as well as DKSH’s fifth China sales office in Chengdu.

Devices from Courage+Khazaka Electronic GmbH were installed for the second time on the International Space Station (ISS) for the experiment SKIN B. Using the C+K devices Corneometer, Tewameter and Visioscan, measurements have been taken since June 2013 by the ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano, who went up with the Soyuz rocket on May 29, 2013. Skin elasticity was examined with the C+K Cutometer before the flight and will be measured again when Parmitano returns to Earth.

Wilmar International and Elevance Renewable Sciences have begun shipping commercial products, including novel specialty chemicals, to customers from their first world-scale joint venture biorefinery, located in Gresik, Indonesia. The biorefinery is the first based on Elevance’s proprietary metathesis technology.

Unilever presented Wacker with a 2013 Partner to Win Award for its customer-oriented supply of silicone raw materials. According to the jury, Wacker helped to significantly reduce the cost for silicone emulsions for hair care products by expanding capacities and developing effective and affordable solutions at its site in India.
