ModiFace Can Scan Your Social Media Photos to Accurately Assess Skin Tone

ModiFace has reportedly developed a technology that can detect a user's skin tone with an accuracy of 98.3%. The assessment comes following an analysis of 1.6 million photos posted to social media by 364,012 users.

Effects in the app can be paired to real-life beauty products, providing a brand sponsorship opportunity.

"The new patent-pending technology uses statistical signal processing methods to compute the lighting conditions of different photos of a user on social media from which a true skin-tone estimate is estimated," ModiFace notes.

The company recently unveiled ModiFace Live, a 3D video effect app that enables users to try real-time video effects including makeup, contact lenses, skin enhancement, emoji and teeth whitening, and share result on messaging platforms like Facebook Messenger.

Users can control the effect intensity to boost realism in all lighting conditions. The gesture control mode allows users to alter effects, for example by puckering their lips or raising their eyebrows.
