With the Asia-Pacific beauty industry among the fastest-growing markets in the world, the innovation on offer in the region is leading to new trends and unique opportunities for exciting product development. To help address these trends and spread the wealth of knowledge they provide, the educational program at in-cosmetics Asia—taking place November 4-6, 2044 at BITEC in Bangkok, Thailand—will be 100% free, with visitors able to attend Marketing Trends Presentations, Innovations Seminars, Regulatory Presentations and the new Interactive Formulation Lab, an exclusive feature for R&D professionals attending the show. Each feature offers access to some of the industry’s leading experts and research companies, helping attendees identify future opportunities and better understand the beauty industry’s key markets.
The Marketing Trends Presentations allow visitors to improve their knowledge, providing practical information on tapping into the latest trends that can be used to hone marketing agendas and improve business strategy. Running daily, these presentations will explore key topics such as Asian men’s beauty trends, skin whitening and the ASEAN 2015 economic community, as well as presentations on Japan, the subject of this year’s Country Focus. Some of them include:
- Kline’s Nikola Matic will discuss the speciality active ingredients markets in China, Europe and the U.S., which continue to be driven by ever-expectant consumers and regional specific products.
- Pei Ying Loh of Euromonitor International presents two sessions, “Global Trends In Anti-Agers,” looking at the Asia Pacific region and the rising trend of younger consumers using anti-ageing products; and “Global Trends In Beauty And Personal Care.”
- Daniel Bone of Datamonitor will explore two lucrative product markets, outlining the key consumer and ingredient trends shaping the global hair care category, as well as the impact of the skin-whitening segment on the skin care market, in “Trends To Watch In Haircare” and “Trends To Watch In Skin-Whitening.”
- As part of the Japan Country Focus, Florence Bernardin of Information & Inspiration will be presenting “What Is Happening In Japan?” and “What Is Coming Next In Japan?,” both of which assess the opportunities and future developments in a market where demand for premium cosmetics continues to rise.
- Attendees also can learn about other markets including Vietnam in a presentation by Le Chau Giang of Johnson & Johnson in “The Vietnamese Personal Care Market—Trends and Prospects,” which will look at a market dominated by international brands in a country with an increasingly high number of middle class income earners.
Regulation is one of the industry’s most talked-about topics. At in-cosmetics Asia, Regulatory Presentations will shine a light on key updates professionals need to be aware of.
- The second day of the event sees Dr. Alain Khaiat of Seers Consulting chairing a panel discussion on “ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Opportunities and Challenges,” scheduled to become a reality in 2015. This timely debate explores the elimination of technical barriers to trade and how these will bring about new opportunities for the Asian cosmetics industry. It will also look at some member states that have already deviated from the harmonization of standards and technical requirements and which of these hurdles to finalization of the AEC require further defining.
- With many manufacturers from across the Asia-Pacific region looking to export to Western markets such as the EU and U.S., having a knowledge of the regulations and documentation required to do so can prove invaluable. Belinda Pilmore, director of the Institute of Personal Care Science presents “Regulations in the West: An Overview of Cosmetic Compliance in the EU and US.” This presentation will provide a specific focus on acceptable and non-acceptable claims, safety evaluations and registration for the EU and how to apply concise checklists to help guide document collation and preparation.
A new feature for 2014, the Interactive Formulation Lab will see sessions hosted by the likes of BASF, Dr Straetmans, Gattefossé and Lipoid Kosmetik. Taking place inside a purpose-built, fully functional lab, these sessions will cover theory across a range of disciplines, helping develop skills and impart best practice knowledge.
The educational program also will see more than 28 Innovation Seminars presented by exhibitors, highlighting new ingredients and technologies on offer that will help inspire new product development.
- Skin imperfections, no matter how visible, are signs of chemical imbalance, but they can have a serious effect on self-esteem. Solabia Group will present its winning active ingredients that offer skin care solutions for such ailments.
- Ashland’s Tuttu Nuutinen presents the company’s latest unique conditioning polymer based on acrylate technology, which can be used to restore damaged hair to its virgin state. Tuttu will explain more about how the ingredient can be used in shampoos, conditioners, masks and leave-on systems.
- Other sessions will be presented by companies including the likes of Lipotec, Evonik Personal Care and Native Extracts covering topics such as oily skin, new anti-aging strategy and innovation in sun protection.
