Cosmetic Marketer Signs License with Sony Pictures

Under license from Sony Pictures Consumer Products Inc. and Lafig Belgium s.a., Too Faced Cosmetics will launch the five-piece Smurfette Collection, debuting at Sephora U.S. stores and on Sephora.com in January 2009.

"As a child of the 80s, Smurfette was the 'It Girl' of my generation," said Jerrod Blandino, founder and creative director, Too Faced Cosmetics, of the lone female character on the 1980s Saturday morning children's cartoon show. "I am constantly drawing from my childhood experiences and many artistic genres. She was the only girl in a village of adoring men who seemed their whole reason for living was to bask in her spotlight. She was the epitome of the Too Faced girl."

The character's blue color also informed the tints used in the collection.

Created in 1958 in the pages of the Belgian magazine Spirou, Smurfs may also be resurrected in a live-action/animated hybrid motion picture from Sony Pictures.

"Smurfette is the quintessential glamor girl and a perfect fit with a brand as bold, bright and glamorous as Too Faced," said Juli Boylan, senior vice president, worldwide consumer products, Sony Pictures Consumer Products. Too Faced Cosmetics launches The Smurfette Collection; limited-edition cosmetic collection banks on nostalgia buy and renewed interest in the possible film resurrection of children's characters.
