drom, together with the Color Association of the United States (CAUS), unveiled its trend forecast for fall/winter 2014–2015 through an interactive fashion show and trend event at the Gallery Bar in New York. GCI sister publication Perfumer & Flavorist reported that drom created a fragrance inspired by each color story for beauty, interiors and fashion. Models meandered throughout the crowd at the October 10, 2013, event and prompted guests to smell the fragrance they wore to symbolize the trends of the season.
The top 10 trends for fall/winter 2014–2015 are:
- Power shift is influenced by the growth of multicultural groups, as well as vibrant color and warm tones.
- Legacy shows off multiple sides of a woman’s personality, reflected in lived-in and warm-feeling colors.
- New wave focuses on the growth of entrepreneurs.
- Rock steady reflects uncertainty in the economy and natural disasters. Colors are inspired by exotic foods.
- Clean slate focuses on clean lines and the contrast between light and dark.
- Tailsman is the art of storytelling. Designers become storytellers. The colors are rich and sophisticated.
- Yin and yang offers subtle and bold tones, light and darkness.
- Carry on reflects having a can-do attitude through bright and attractive colors.
- Seeker focuses on someone who stops to smell the roses and does his or her own thing.
- Earth, wind and fire finds the beauty in the tragedy of natural disasters.
The Carry On fragrance, created by drom perfumer Christopher Diienno, was created in response to the trend of the same name and reflected the beauty color story. Described as a palette dominated by “warm neutrals,” the fragrance’s top notes included bergamot and peach; middle notes of jasmine, orange flower and coconut blossom; and base notes of birchwood, vanilla bean, coconut and musk.
Clean Slate, created by perfumer Agnès Mazin, featured white incense top notes to convey a clean sense of modernity and exotic spices to add color. Middle notes were tobacco and amber. Base notes were sensual woods, patchouli and musk. The scent reflected the interior color story.
For the fashion category, New Wave, also by Mazin, featured citrus top notes to reflect the confident and optimistic attitude of the new wave woman. Top notes were lemon, lime and quince. Middle notes were sheer jasmine and water lily. Base notes were plum wood, white amber and musk.
“Collaborating with the Color Association of the United States is always a fun and inspiring experience,” said Renato Roque, drom’s marketing manager, in a written statement. “This year in particular was exciting because, in addition to beauty, we’ve added interiors and fashion. It was also a chance for our perfumers to be creative without any constraints.”
