Naturals Grow In U.K.

According to the Organic Monitor, a business research publication on the European organic food industry, U.K. sales of natural personal care products nearly doubled between 2002 and 2005—with the market for natural and organic personal care products increasing by over 20% a year. The publication cites a growing consumer concern about chemicals in cosmetics and toiletries and the increasing availability of natural products as the major drivers of the growth.

Further, the research shows that skin care and hair care products account for 80% of natural personal care product revenues, and natural deodorants and oral care products also are showing healthy growth rates. Organic Monitor expects the natural cosmetics market to report the highest growth in the coming years.

In spite of high growth rates, the market share of natural products remains below 5% of total personal care product sales.
