ICMAD Announces 13th Annual Young Designers Competition

The Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers & Distributors (ICMAD) announced the 13th Annual Young Designers Competition, set to take place at Twenty Four Fifth in New York on October 10, 2012. Created in 1999, the ICMAD Young Designers Competition showcases the talents of students studying package design. The goal of the Young Designers competition is to encourage and develop future creative talent in the beauty industry.

"The beauty industry is always evolving and design is a big factor in a brand's success. These talented students participating in the ICMAD Young Designers Competition have the vision and creativity that will fuel many bright futures ahead," said Pam Busiek, ICMAD president and CEO.

The participating schools in this year's program:

  • American Academy of Art, Chicago, Illinois
  • Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM), Los Angeles and San Francisco
  • Miami International University of Art/Design

Students had to create a type of BB cream or serum packaging concept, including the overall brand identity, product name, descriptive copy and net weights. New this year, students also were required to create secondary packaging (i.e. box/tuck) to enhance the overall appeal of the product.

Judged by a panel of cosmetic and personal care packaging design experts, the criteria includes overall uniqueness, capability to be reproduced economically and ability to stand out favorably against competitive packages. The awards will be presented to the three winners by Ben Bennett, founder and creative director of Hatch Beauty.
