World-class Educational Program Returns at in-cosmetics Barcelona 2015

Celebrating its 25th anniversary in Barcelona in April 2015, in-cosmetics will once again play host to an extensive series of workshops, seminars, roundtable debates and live demonstrations—with the industry’s most important topics, new ingredients and latest innovations coming to the fore in the show’s comprehensive Educational Programme.

With more than 8,000 visitors attending the show in order to glean new product information, explore innovative formulation techniques and network with more than 680 exhibiting manufacturers, in-cosmetics Barcelona 2015 provides a meeting place for personal care and cosmetics professionals from around the world.

This year, the in-cosmetics Educational Programme is comprised of five elements:

  • Online Conferences, allowing exhibitors to discuss their latest product launches in advance of the show in a digital forum; 
  • Innovation Seminars, featuring over 80 hours of presentations on the latest products, ingredients and technologies;
  • Eight-half day Workshops;
  • Free Marketing Trends presentations, addressing the most hotly debated industry topics;
  • And Live Demonstrations; taking place in the shows’ Innovation Zone, where visitors will get the chance to put questions to the manufacturers and suppliers of the most innovative ingredients and services available to the market.

More About the Educational Programme

The in-cosmetics Online Conference is a pre-show, digital educational platform featuring presentations from ingredients manufacturers about their latest launches, and includes an opportunity for e-attendees to put forward their burning questions. Each conference also features a keynote speech from a leading research organisation about a key industry topic.

With so many product developments and new ingredients debuting at in-cosmetics Barcelona 2015, the ever-popular Innovation Seminars provide a chance for visitors to better acquaint themselves with the latest launches from the likes of Lonza, Naturex, Corum Inc., Gattefosse, Lipotec and RAHN AG. Over 80 hours of presentations cover ingredients and developments in areas such as natural cosmetics, sun protection, product stability, anti-ageing, hair conditioning and multi-functional products.

Moderated by leading technical experts, the paid-for Workshop Programme sees eight, half-day discussions addressing key scientific and regulatory subjects. The Workshops feature senior figures with backgrounds in education, research, ingredient manufacturing and regulation, providing a broad range of opinions on the topics set for discussion.

The first day of the event (April 14) includes workshops on "The New Science of Sun Care Research: New Dangers or Benefits for the Skin?" moderated by Dr. Karl Lintner of Seers Consulting. Featured presenters also include Dr. Nava Dayan of Dr. Nava Dayan L.L.C, skin science and research consultancy. There is also a workshop on "Novel Strategies Towards Regulatory Compliance After Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 Was Set in Motion," which is chaired by Dr. Annelie Struessmann, technical director at CONUSBAT and Dr. Gerald Renner, director of technical regulatory affairs at Cosmetics Europe.

There’s a further regulatory focus on day two, when discussion turns toward the Asian cosmetics market as Dr. Alain Khaiat moderates "Pan-Asian Regulation: What’s New in Emerging and Established Markets." The presentation will outline the latest regulatory changes from 2014, with a particular focus on the emerging and dynamic cosmetics markets in China, India and ASEAN. Later in the day, Dr. Theresa M. Callaghan PhD, CEO and owner of Callaghan Consulting International, will present "The Claims Development Process: More Than Just Evidence," which aims to provide a clear overview and understanding of the complex issues that surrounding the cosmetics claim legislation that came in to effect in 2013.

The Workshop Programme finishes on the show’s final day, as Judi Beerling, technical research manager at Organic Monitor, presents the topic "Formulating with Green Emulsifiers, Surfactants and Emollients," which looks at the popularity of replacing synthetic products with natural alternatives as well as the issues with formulation that can arise from using such alternatives.

Returning in 2015 are the ever popular Marketing Trends presentations, which remains free to all attendees. Delivered by a range of the industry’s most knowledgeable figures, the 22 individual topics explore the most pressing subjects facing the cosmetics and personal care industry today.

Kicking things off on the first day of the show, Ildiko Szalai, senior analyst at Euromonitor International presents "Evolving Habits in Global Beauty," which explores the demand for customisation, cross-category alignment, and regional specific concepts driven by both consumers and manufacturers.

In theme with this year’s Turkey and Middle East market focus, Dr. Yavuz Özoguz, CEO of Halal Zertifikat, will explore the rise in popularity of Halal cosmetics and what is required for an ingredient to achieve Halal certification in his "Halal Cosmetics and Personal Care: A market With Future Potential" presentation.

Further reflecting the show’s global appeal and reach, the final day of in-cosmetics includes a presentation by Tadej Feregotto, CEO of CE.way Regulatory Consultants, discussing why claims substantiation is important, the basics of the EU cosmetics regulation 1223/2009 and EU cosmetics claims regulation 655/2013 in "What Do You Need to Know About Cosmetic Claims When Selling in the EU?"

Other topics set for discussion include "How Beauty Brands Use Social Media Strategy to Boost Their Presence in the Digital Space," "The Race to Outpace: The Global Natural and Organic Cosmetics Market," "Focus on Spain: Statistics, Developments and Trends; Short-term, Mid-term and Long-term Forecast" and a panel discussion on "Green and Natural Standards and Certifications."
