Vigon Opens Distribution Center

Vigon International, the producer of flavor ingredients, fragrances and essential oils, has opened its new 30,000-sq-ft distribution center in Pennsylvania. The facility houses Vigon's warehouse and shipping and receiving operations. Additionally, it uses warehouse and logistic management technology including RFID, WMS and mobile computing. With the opening of the new center, the company's workforce has grown from 39 to 51, with more growth expected.
The process for building the new center has not been an easy one. The effort to build the warehouse began back in 2001, but because there wasn't a community water supply to the new facility the company was facing a dramatic increase in insurance costs. The company was finally able to apply for assistance from the state of Pennsylvania to build the water line, and was able to secure a grant of about $500,000 for the $800,000 project. Vigon covered the rest of the costs.
