ICMAD Young Designers Competition, Celebration Approaches

The Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers & Distributors (ICMAD) is honoring talented young beauty packaging designers at its 13th Annual Young Designers Competition event, set to take place at Twenty Four Fifth in New York on October 10, 2012. Created in 1999, the ICMAD Young Designers Competition showcases the talents of students studying package design, and the goal of the Young Designers competition is to encourage and develop future creative talent in the beauty industry.

The event will also feature a keynote speech by Ben Bennett, founder and creative director of HatchBeauty, and Bennett will also present the award to the three winners, who were judged by a panel of cosmetic and personal care packaging design experts. The criteria included overall uniqueness, capability to be reproduced economically and ability to stand out favorably against competitive packages.

"The beauty industry is always evolving and design is a big factor in a brand's success. These talented students participating in the ICMAD Young Designers Competition have the vision and creativity that will fuel many bright futures ahead," said Pam Busiek, ICMAD president and CEO.

Students had to create a type of BB cream or serum packaging concept, including the overall brand identity, product name, descriptive copy and net weights. New this year, students also were required to create secondary packaging (i.e., box/tuck) to enhance the overall appeal of the product.
