ICMAD Invites Schools to Enter Students for Its 2014-15 Young Designers Competition

In order to bring new creativity and innovation into the beauty packaging design industry, ICMAD (the Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors) is holding its 2014-15 Young Designer’s Competition for participating colleges. The competition entails creating a prestige cosmetic or body care product with a secondary packaging design that may be reproducible in today’s marketplace.

All entries must use an original brand and product name and will be judged by top design professionals for effective communication of the idea behind the product, protection and containment of the product, and design principles.

ICMAD encourages colleges and universities to enter their students in this competition. In the most recent edition of the competition, eight schools participated and three winners were selected. These will be announced by February 2015. These students will attend an awards dinner in southern California and receive a tour to meet with executives from top beauty companies. Last year’s winners met with GlamGlow and Murad. The first place winner also received a one-year paid scholarship with East Hill Industries, LLC.

First created in 1998, the Young Designer’s Competition has become one of the beauty industry’s most prestigious design awards for product and package design students. It works to spurr creativity and young talent in packaging design—a highly in-demand, specialized form of design that merges aesthetic beauty with functionality and innovation.

And new for this year, the Evanston Art Center will host an exhibit for the winners and entrants to showcase the talent of the students.
