Discover Hot Holiday Beauty Behaviors and Buys from Birchbox

In preparation for the busiest shopping season of the year, Birchbox released the results of a recent survey via an infographic that takes a look at consumers' gifting habits and trends this holiday season.

The company surveyed 6,500 women and men and compared their answers to better understand their holiday gifting habits—from secret wish lists to enduring trends. After digging deep into this data, Birchbox uncovered 10 interesting holiday gifting truths.

  • Red lips don't lie: Men (50%) and women (33%) agree, red lips are the most striking holiday beauty trend for women. Shimmery eyes are also popular—30% of men like them, as do 25% of women. However, men's least favorite holiday beauty look that women wear? Glitter nails.
  • Online shopping is booming: 42% of women and 56% of men plan to do more than half of their holiday shopping online this year—a large increase over last year. Also, 51% of men and 41% of women plan to use a mobile app to shop.
  • Gimme, gimme more: 54% of female respondants said they would gladly unwrap gifts like skin care from the beauty and grooming categories, and 38% said they'd like makeup. For men, 51% said they would like skin care products as gifts and 37% said they would like fragrance.
  • No hard feelings: Most people would be glad to receive these (potentially touchy) items: antiwrinkle cream, undereye concealer, frizzy hair serum, tooth whitening strips or paste. Sixty percent of women would be good with getting these gifts, and 59% of men would be fine with it.
