CEW (UK) Announces Recipients of 2011 Achiever Awards

CEW (UK) announced that the the recipients of its 2011 Achiever Awards will be honored October 10 at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower, London. The award recognizes the women who are driving the beauty business and, according to the organization, are providing the road map to success for the next generation of beauty brands.

CEW (UK) Achievers 2011

Aude Appolinaire, Regional Marketing Director, Chanel: Appolinaire has 20 years experience in international marketing. She spent her first 10 years working in brand development, first in FMCG and then in fragrance and beauty, working for major companies such as L'Oréal and Guerlain. After relocating from Paris to London in 2002, she spent five years working at Elizabeth Arden developing the brand's visibility, image and desirability within the UK. She now works for Chanel to offer direction, support and coaching to the markets within the UK region, ensuring that there is strategic alignment in place. She is also 'the voice' of the region within Chanel Global, contributing to the development of the international marketing strategy, ensuring that the integrity of the brand is always protected. In addition, Appolinaire is a long standing member of CEW (UK) and currently serves on the board.

Jane Bruton, Editor in Chief, Grazia Magazine: Bruton has been at the helm of Britain’s successful and multi-award winning weekly glossy magazine since its launch six years ago. She has reinvented the weekly women’s market to produce a stand-out fashion and news magazine that’s been hailed as 'defining a cultural moment.' She has been voted Britain’s Most Influential Magazine Editor by the Guardian, Independent and Evening Standard and this year she took her place in the hugely influential Who’s Who guide.

Linda Taylor, Managing Director, Kenneth Green Associates: Taylor began her beauty career when an opportunity arose at Puig in 1988. She went on to achieve the position of regional sales manager. An ambitious and driven manager, Taylor moved to KGA in 1995 as London area manager. She has was promoted to the board of directors, first as sales director and then, in January 2007, as managing director. Her focus on retail partnerships and fighting for "what the company deserves, and a bit more." This year the company was awarded third place in The Sunday Times 100 best companies to work for. Taylor is a long time member and supporter of CEW (UK).

Nicola Mendelsohn, Executive Chairman, Karmarma: Mendelsohn started her career at BBH as a graduate trainee and over 12 years rose to be a shareholder and director of the business. She later joined Grey London in 2004 where she worked on P&G fragrances as business development director and later rising to be European business development director and finally deputy chairman of the London office. In April 2008, Mendelsohn became the executive chairman and partner at the advertising agency Karmarama. She is also the current president of the IPA (the advertising industry trade body and is the first woman to hold this position in the 94 year history). Her other credits include working with the Fragrance Foundation and creating the marketing for Fragrance Week, where she has served on their board for over a decade and continues to do so. In May 2011, Mendelsohn was named an International Woman to Watch by Advertising Age. She has just completed her CEW(UK) board term.

CEW (UK) Special Industry Award 2011

Presented each year to an individual (man or women) who has made an outstanding contribution to the industry and the advancement of women in their beauty careers.

George Hammer, Chairman of Urban Retreats Ltd: Hammer began his transition from fashion to the beauty industry in 1980 when he took over The Sanctuary in Covent Garden, transforming it into the world’s first urban day spa. He then brought Aveda into the UK and helped the company build it into a global leader. He opened Urban Retreat on the fifth floor of Harrods in 2002, creating the benchmark for the beauty industry’s first "super-salon." This year, Hammer launched Urban Retreat at Home, designed to bring the same service and luxury customers have come to expect from the Urban Retreat salons into the comfort of their own homes. He has also partnered with the well-respected London School of Beauty and Make-up to develop the an independent beauty industry school. In 2009, as a part of his philanthropic efforts, he launched the All For Eve beauty brand with the sole purpose of raising funds and awareness for gynecological cancer research by donating all net profits to The Eve Appeal.
