ISP Makes Introductions at SCC Meeting

At the Midwest SCC Teamworks event, the personal care business of International Specialty Products (ISP) introduced paraben, formaldehyde and halogen free alternative preservative systems based on organic acids. According to the company, the ingredients were created to help formulators address global consumers' growing concern over the safety and efficacy of preservatives in personal care products.

Optiphen BSB-N and Optiphen BSP may be classified as mild preservatives due to the choice of organic acids they contain; Conarom H-3 and Conarom P are antimicrobial aromatic substances that, according to the company, have broad-spectrum protection against microorganisms that usually eliminate the need for additional preservatives in formulations.

The Optiphen products are appropriate for skin creams, lotions and gels, and have demonstrated good dispersibility in both oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions. ISP recommends their use in natural cosmetic products. The Conarom products can be used in creams, lotions and shampoos.
