Pantone has announced its 2024 Color of the Year to be Peach Fuzz—a light, fruity tone that conjures peace and serenity. dsm-Firmenich collaborated with Pantone to create a fragrance to accompany the Color of the Year utilizing fragrance technology EmotiOn.

P&F+ connected with VP Marketing Global Scent Reporting at dsm-firmenich Lauren Rooney to discuss the details behind the selected color and fragrance companion, Peach Fuzz eau de parfum for 2024.

Can you share some details behind how the Pantone Color of the Year for 2024 was selected?

Lauren Rooney [LR]: Pantone, who is a provider of professional color language standards and digital solutions, has selected the Color of the Year for 20+ years by analyzing socio-cultural shifts, trends and influences across a wide range of lifestyle areas including the entertainment industry, art, fashion, design, and travel destinations. Leatrice Eiseman (executive director of the Pantone Color Institute) leads the Color of the Year Campaign. To select Color of the Year, she travels the world meeting with many experts, designers and forecasters to understand what consumers will want to buy in the coming years.

What anticipated or growing trends informed this color choice?

LR: This color reflects the yearning that people have for connection, a sense of community and care amidst a world that can often times feel isolating, dark and hard. Peach fuzz conveys a sense of sensoriality, tenderness and wellbeing, while still presenting elements of play and comfortall attributes which are increasingly important to consumers.

How can the fragrance industry best benefit from the Pantone 2024 Color of the Year?

LR: The fragrance industry can best benefit from this Year’s Color of the Year by tapping into the emotional connection between the fragrance and the color. At dsm-firmenich, our perfumers created Peach Fuzz EDP using EmotiOn, a breakthrough program to create powerful, emotionally driven fragrance solutions. The industry can also benefit from looking at peach through new and more innovative olfactive avenues to widen the spectrum of possibilities that peach has to offer. By exploring and amplifying the many facets of the peach, we can bring new life to this well loved note.

Can you share what types of launches might be influenced by the color?

LR: Peach is a powerful color and a scent that resonates across categories, price points and geographies. Thus, there is a spectrum of peach that gives many opportunities to brands to play withranging from mass to luxury and from candles to fragrance to body care.

Is there a fragrance launch by dsm-Firmenich that encapsulates this color? If so, what are the notes and who were the perfumers behind it?

LR: Yes! dsm-Firmenich’s Peach Fuzz Eau de Parfum is inspired by this year’s color. Our perfumers Alexandra Monet and Steve Guo aimed to create a universally loved, touchable solar peach fragrance with a skin sensation. By conveying pure and positive feelings through innovative ingredients such as our Peach Fuzz Smell-The-Taste, captive Osmantol and Ambrette Firabs, each note within the fragrance is designed to deliver emotion and texture to the compositionan invitation to feel good!
