Details of New FiFi Award Category Announced

The Fragrance Foundation announced details of the newly created “Perfume Extraordinaire of the Year” FiFi award category.

“Our board felt strongly that the actual 'juice' of a fine fragrance should stand on its own and be honored," said Rochelle Bloom, president, The Fragrance Foundation. "This award celebrates the aesthetic beauty of a fragrance, the craftsmanship, design, signature, creativity and quality. It not only recognizes the essential oil company but also the perfumer(s) who, as olfactive visionaries, inspire us most when their creations move the market forward.

“We are delighted to add this important recognition. After all, this is the heart and soul of our fragrance world," Bloom said.

Every essential oil house that is a member of The Fragrance Foundation is eligible to submit an entry, as well as manufacturer members that employ in-house perfumers. Non-members are also eligible to submit an entry for an entry fee. Companies can only submit one entry, either masculine or feminine that has been created and marketed in 2008. The category will be judged by an independent panel of fragrance authorities who will evaluate each fragrance submission, identified by an assigned code to insure impartiality. Judges are anonymous and known only to the foundation. Ballots are tabulated by the independent accounting firm, Sperduto, Spector and Company.

The first ever winner of this essential new category will be announced and presented with a FiFi at the awards ceremony on May 27, 2009.
