Day Three of in-cosmetics Culminates New Tech Information

Reported by Katie Schaefer, assistant editor, Cosmetics & Toiletries magazine

Agipal introduced two new products at in-cosmetics 2008. Carica papaya (papaya) seed oil  is said by the company to be rich in essential fatty acids. It also restructures skin to improve the cutaneous barrier by its moisturizing properties. It serves as a nutritive oil for all skin types and possesses anti-oxidant activity.

Adansonia digitata (baobab) oil is derived from the seeds of the baobab tree. Rich in oleïc and linoleïc acid, it is a natural moisturizer that improves skin elasticity. It reportedly prevents wrinkles by stimulating cell regeneration. It can be formulated into products for eczema and psoriasis.

BC Beauty and Cosmetic Srl introduced its new product, Baobab. According to the company, baobab possesses nutritional properties. Beneficial properties of baobab include: anti-oxidant, filmogenic, stretching, soothing, elastic and peels.

At the show, Botaneco discussed Hydresia G2. The difference between G2 and the other Hydresia products is the a new preservative system.

Codif Research & Nature introduced Hydrasalinol, an oily extract of Salicornia herbacea for visibly hydrated skin. Plants such as S. Herbacea, develop specific carriers of ammonium ions; precursors in the synthesis of urea. Codif discovered similar channels in human skin: ammoniaporines 8 (AQP8). These are transmembraneous channels enabling the synthesis and transport of ammonium ions. Acting jointly on the synthesis of AQP8 and the cohesion of the skin, the ingredient boosts urea storage in the epidermis and strengthens skin sealing to reduce urea losses. After 28 days of treatment with Hydrasalinol at 0.25%, the skin reportedly is visibly re-hydrated.

Elementis Specialties launched Bentone Gel PTIS V (INCI: Pentaerythrityl tetraisostearate (and) disteardimonium hectorite (and) propylene carbonate.) It is an optimally dispersed and activated hectorite organoclay in an organic emollient. This new product provides cushion emollience, persisting and lubricious skin feel, high pigment wetting, and glossing films. It further offers rheological modification for the oil phase and emulsions, leading to enhanced product stability, viscosity, suspending capability, texture, skin feel, spreading properties, thixotropic flow characteristics, even enhanced SPF protection.
Lipotec S.A. has added a new product to its offering—Hilurlip. Lip skin differs from other skin and is characterized by being rather thin. Due to the absence of a keratinized stratum corneum, moisture rapidly evaporates from the lips. The product is an advanced way of vehiculization of sodium hyaluronate particles to enhance its penetration and efficacy. These small particles swell when they are in contact with skin water, producing a long-term boosting effect on the lips. The ingredient also incorporates a RCS scavenger,  protecting lips’ skin from the harmful effects of pollution. The ingredient is said to enhance moisturization of lip skin, produce a long-term plumping effect and prevent premature aging.
