Get the Look, New Licenses, and More Beauty Ingredient News and Launches for Early August 2013

BASF announced the launch of Get the Look 2.0, the new virtual makeover application that showcases BASF’s personal care portfolio, which includes 2015 beauty trends and looks. Powered by ModiFace, the application allows customers to personalize a makeover by uploading their own photo or choosing a model from the photo library. From there, the user can adjust hairstyles, eye makeup, face makeup and anti-aging effects.

Sabinsa announced its Payson, Utah, manufacturing facility is now registered to the NSF International’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) program. In addition to the distribution of Sabinsa’s science-backed, patented ingredients, the Utah facility is a full-fledged contract manufacturing center.

IMCD Group completed the acquisition of Capitol Ingredients Australia Pty Ltd, a Sydney-based specialty ingredients distributor focused on the nutraceuticals, personal care, food and pharmaceutical markets of Australia and New Zealand. Capitol Ingredients will be consolidated with staff from the IMCD Personal Care team and will run as a separate division of IMCD ANZ.

Clariant signed the declaration of membership of the UN Global Compact. In doing so, the company is emphasizing its all-round commitment to sustainable development and being a good corporate citizen based on the UN initiative’s 10 general principles in human rights, labor, environmental protection and anti-corruption.

Larry Sievers has been appointed an advisor to the board of directors of Essential Ingredients, Inc. Sievers brings a strong background in strategic planning, financial management and organizational transformation. He previously served as the CFO of Altegrity (formerly U.S. Investigation Services) and CEO and board chair of Heinold, Inc.

Chroma Corporation announced Dennis Meade has joined Chroma as business development manager for the greater Ohio territory. Meade has over 42 years’ experience in all aspects of the plastic color and additive master batch industry, and he will be responsible for business development at existing customers, new customers and end users in the western half of Pennsylvania, Ohio, eastern half of Kentucky and the state of West Virginia.

Solvay announced Bernard de Laguiche is stepping down as CFO and has appointed Karim Hajjar as his successor. Hajjar previously was director of finance and planning at Imperial Tobacco Group Plc. In his first job, he became a partner at Grant Thornton Chartered Accountants, which he joined in 1984. He moved on to Royal Dutch/Shell where between 1995 and 2004 he was, among others, deputy CFO of Shell Chemicals. Hajjar was CFO of Tarmac Group from 2005 to 2009 and its managing director until 2010. de Laguiche will stay on at Solvay as a non-executive board member.

New Launches

Male Fundamentals is a new strategic concept created by AkzoNobel Personal Care designed to help product developrs become better acquainted with this growing styling segment. At AkzoNobel Personal Care, extensive consumer research was conducted to explore the styling needs, product preferences and grooming habits of male consumers across the globe. Men from America, Asia, Europe and Latin America participated in the study, which increased the understanding of men’s needs related to hair grooming and styling products; the motivation behind their current styling product purchases; the desired consumer experience related to men’s styling products; the tips, tricks and language used by men in each global region to articulate achieving the perfect style and look; and how ethnicity affects product perceptions through the use of focus groups. The company then paired the findings of its consumer study with AkzoNobel’s formulating expertise to create 12 new styling formulations designed to meet the specific needs of male consumers in America, Asia, Europe and Latin America.

CoValence announced new additions to its family men’s skin care offerings. Buster (VLT0.1022) is a men’s cleanser that targets dirt, impurities and oils using three major cleansing components: willow bark extract, salicyclic acid and bamboo stem extract. And Catch-22 )VLT0.6611) is a shave cream specially formulated for men with three types of clay that absorb sebum, prevent pores from clogging and detoxify skin.

In response to the consumer sensorial demand, Shin-Etsu Silicones of America premiered a diverse yet interrelated set of advanced, multifunctional cosmetic silicone system products. This new generation of cosmetic silicone formulations work alone and collectively to deliver synergistic sensory, stability, and functionality benefits based on their application for a wide variety of cosmetic products. Key products in the cosmetic silicone system include: KSG-016F, a silicone gel that delivers an enhanced smooth and silky feel; KSG-360Z, an emulsifying elastomer gel with silicone that delivers an excellent, smooth-skin feel that can be used to produce unique water-in-silicone and water in-oil products; and KSP-411 and KSP-441, hybrid silicone powders that combine the soft feeling of a silicone rubber core and the smooth feeling of a silicone resin shell to achieve a soft focus effect.

Brookfield Engineering offers the new TA-DGA Dual Grip Assembly for use with the CT3 Tester. The Dual Grip Assembly is designed for testing the tensile breaking strength of materials. Both lower and upper grip assemblies are included with this accessory, and the grip length for holding onto sample test strips is 10 mm.
