CEW UK hosted the Young Executive Event “Reaching the Extreme,” featuring an address from Natalia Cohen, in London.

As a member of the Coxless Crew, Cohen rowed across the Pacific Ocean from the United States to Australia with a team of women. Their nine months of rowing—at just under 9,000 nautical miles—supported the charities Breast Cancer Care and Walking with the Wounded.

Cohen spoke on the mental difficulties and internal setbacks that she faced during the nine-month journey, noting that everyone “has their own Pacific to cross.”

She drew on the hardships of the journey—such as losing the charge controllers that ran the batteries in a contained fire on the boat, a sleeping cabin which could reach up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, salt sores and even hallucinations—to motivate attendees to tackle everyday challenges.

Said Cohen: “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”
