Project September allows users to click on beauty spreads and purchase products in-app.

Virtual makeup apps have become all the rage, creating new shoppable experiences for mobile consumers. Now, Project September, an "immersive visual shopping experience," offers shoppable fashion and beauty spreads in an app. Contributors include Nina Garcia, Nicole Richie, Christy Turlington and Patrick Janelle.

The app is simple. Users follow their friends or style icons in the interface, scroll through a daily feed to find the latest looks, and tap the app's green dots to purchase anything of interest.

Users can post their own photos and allow others to shop their looks.

According to WWD, beauty players participating in the platform include Birchbox, Aveda, Clinique and Elizabeth Arden.
