Pinterest has unveiled the top breakout beauty trends for 2024, spanning hair care, makeup, body care and more.
1. Body care
In 2023, body skin care has outpaced the broader category, per Circana data. Pinterest notes that growing interest in the sector is reflected in rising activity in body lotion aesthetic (up 245%), body care routines (up 1,025%), body care in general (up 845%).
In addition, sub categories have shown spikes in engagement, notably body sunscreens (up 75%) and spa aesthetic (up 60%).
The sector growth will be driven both by Gen Z and baby boomers, per Pinterest.
2. Hair care
Apparently jellyfish are the new mushrooms. Driving trends in fashion and home goods, the aesthetic will influence hair, with jellyfish haircut engagement up 615%. Interest is centered among millennials and Gen Z.
Also trending in 2024 are big braid hairstyles (up 30%), men's wavy perms (up 50%) and big hair buns (up 230%).
Notably, millennials and Gen Z will lead what Pinterest calls engagement in the "'fluffy hair' aesthetic."
3. Color cosmetics
Pinterest is also highlighting aquamarine makeup, led by Gen Z and millennials, which driven growth for blue eyeshadow (up 65%), "fun" blue nails (up 260%), light blue prom makeup (up 70%), aqua makeup looks (up 100%) and blue quince makeup (up 85%).
The trend is reportedly taking off due to the tones' flattering effects across a wide array of skin tones.
