Sabinsa has been innovating with natural ingredients for 30 years. The company was founded in 1988 by Muhammed Majeed, Ph.D. The company made a mark on the industry by standardizing ingredients—and thus efficacy—in the nutraceutical field. Today, Sabinsa Corp. is a manufacturer, supplier and marketer of herbal extracts, cosmeceuticals, minerals, dietary supplements and specialty fine chemicals for the nutritional, cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food industries.

The company opened its own lab in 1991 to further standardize source materials. Two years later, the company expanded ingredient standardization and manufacturing activities. Since 1999, Sabinsa has developed topical herbal applications for creams and lotions and developed ways to render these natural products solubilizable for cosmetics.

In 2000, Sabinsa officially launched its cosmetics division. The company has a thriving business in the United States and a growing business in Europe.

Shaheen Majeed, president, Sabinsa Worldwide, says that Sami Labs, Sabinsa’s corporate R&D center in Peenya, Bengaluru, India, is home to the company’s work in probiotics. Sabinsa’s LactoSpore is a commercial probiotic preparation containing L(+) lactic acid producing microbial preparation from Bacillus coagulans, MTCC 5856.

The preparation survives in many types of formats, including food and beverage and topical skin care. It can be formulated into soaps to remove dead cells.
