At a ceremony held in Mexico City, Lubrizol Mexico received the country’s "socially responsible company" (ESR) award. The award ceremony is an annual event sponsored by the president of Mexico for the purpose of recognizing those Mexican companies that, for the first time, have documented they meet standards set by the Mexican Center for Philanthropy (Centro Mexicano para la Filantropia, or CEMEFI) for socially responsible and ethical operation.
AkzoNobel Surface Chemistry announced it will relocate its personal care activities from Sempach, Switzerland, to its regional headquarters in Stenungsund, Sweden. The personal care technical service and customer service departments will move during fourth quarter 2014, and full integration into the existing organization in Stenungsund is expected by December 31, 2014.
Shin-Etsu Silicones of America presented its emulsifying elastomers KSG-210/KSG-710 and KF co-emulsifiers at the inaugural Cosmetics &Toiletries Summit at the University of Pennsylvania. As a platinum sponsor of the event, Shin-Etsu’s cosmetic application laboratory manager Yinli Wang premiered her “Texture Creation Utilizing Shin-Etsu’s Unique Emulsifiers” presentation on Day 1, demonstrating how product developers in the personal care market can build their textures around the unique KSG-210/KF system: from gel to cream and to stick structure; and from skin care to sun care and to color cosmetics. Clariant has expanded its site in Tangerang, Indonesia to increase production capacity and enlarge product range and support capabilities for Indonesia and the Southeast Asia and Pacific markets. The expansion will support the strong demand for sustainable pigments, masterbatches and personal, home and industrial care ingredients. Additionally, Clariant and Ashland Inc. announced the closing of the previously announced sale of their joint venture ASK Chemicals, headquartered in Hilden, Germany, to investment funds affiliated with Rhône, a London- and New York-based private equity investment firm on June 30, 2014.

J. Leon Lichtin, PhD, passed away on June 10, 2014, at the age of 90. He was the founder of the cosmetic science program at the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy at the University of Cincinnati (UC), and is often referred to as the father of cosmetic science education.
Croda appointed two members, Annie Lamoureux and Kim Douglass, to roles in the company’s North American consumer care sales team. Lamoureux has accepted the position of sales representative, exports, and will be based out of Croda’s North American Headquarters and Innovation Center, located in Edison, New Jersey. In her new role, Lamoureux will be supporting Croda’s personal care and health care export sales businesses with a focus on markets in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. And Douglass joins Croda Inc as a key account manager, personal care. Based out of Dallas, Texas, she will have responsibility for the company’s customers in the Southwest region of the U.S.
Centerchem announced the promotion of Raymond Sourial to vice president of sales. In this position, Sourial will be responsible for the company’s management and development of personal care ingredient sales in the U.S. and Canada.

A&E Connock debuted its expanded range of natural exfoliants to the beauty industry. The range was extended in response to increased interest from beauty brands manufacturers seeking natural alternatives to plastic microbeads. The company carries 30 different natural exfoliants, many with several options for particulate size, grade and form. These exfoliants can provide a light abrasive effect (ground loofah) to a more aggressive scrub (pumice or sweet almond shell granules). In addition to the many and varied exfoliating properties, the wide range includes a spectrum of colors, from rich natural tones to the pure white of jojoba wax beads and natural earth elements such as alumina. Some example exfoliants include: strawberry seeds, ground corn cob, ground coconut shell, Mandarin peel, evening primrose seed and more.
Novacyl, a part of the Novacap Group, introduced its YOSH homosalate UV filter. Homosalate is an oil-soluble chemical that absorbs in the UVB range. According to the company, it is also an excellent solvent and booster, and a good stabilizer for other sunscreen actives. The product may be used in formulations up to 15% in the United States and 10% in Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America.
