Meadowfoam XPR (INCI: Limnanthes alba (meadowfoam) seed oil), from Natural Plant Products, Inc. (NPP), is a mechanically extracted version of meadowfoam seed oil meant to be used in a variety of hair, skin, lip and body product applications.
Developed to meet consumer demand, Meadowfoam XPR is extracted and refined to adhere to the Ecocert/COSMOS approved standard for cosmetic ingredients. This appeals to formulators who respond to the "clean" beauty trend, where supply chain transparency and responsible ingredient sourcing is seeing considerable scrutiny from discerning customers.
According to the supplier, Meadowfoam XPR is more than twice as stable than the very popular jojoba oil. They both have very similar affects for skin and hair care such as, moisturizing and conditioning.
Mike Martinez, NPP’s CEO explained, "Meadowfoam XPR matches the specs of our flagship Meadowfoam Seed Oil, so it is easy to plug into existing MSO formulations. It’s more expensive to produce at this point, but, given its slightly lighter color and cachet of meeting Ecocert, COSMOS and NPA standards, commitments for industry uses have been strong so far. Also, since the product is essentially a uniquely Pacific Northwest story, that has a lot of appeal for brand managers looking for a great natural, 'pride-of-place,' ingredient story."
Getting Meadowfoam XPR ready for the market has included formulating and testing guide formulations with XPR in the company’s lab and introducing the product to select global partners over the last year.
