Specialty ingredient company Seppic announced the publication of new data on its flagship active ingredient, Aquaxyl (INCI: Xylitylglucoside (and) Anhydroxylitol (and) Xylitol). The new data shows Aquaxyl’s ability to support the skin’s biological balance and maintaining the skin barrier.

Aquaxyl is a natural active ingredient derived from a patented sugar process that activates three mechanisms of natural hydration. The active can be used in body care, face care, intimate care and sun care.

The company’s researchers completed in vitro investigations to highlight the ingredient’s dual biological action. According to the company’s press release, Aquaxyl significantly stimulates the growth of beneficial commensal bacteria, such as Staphylococcus epidermis (+28%) and Corynebacterium xerosis (+25%). Additionally, the data showed that the ingredient reduces biofilm formation by Staphylococcus aureus by 59% on a reconstructed epidermis model.

“These new data illustrate Seppic’s scientific rigor, an expertise based on assessment protocols adapted to the microbiome topic: balancing modulation for active ingredients and guaranteed for the ecosystem of the excipients,” the company stated in its press release. “For the latter, Seppic has notably developed exclusive assessment models (patent pending) dedicated to the face and scalp.”
