Fermentation is the name of the game for Bloomage Biotechnology USA, which presented a new anti-aging and mitochondria protectant during the latest SCC Annual Meeting and Technology Showcase.

"At this show, we are presenting a new ingredient derived from fermentation, specifically from two different types of mushrooms found in Japan," explained Giuseppe Calloni, Ph.D., vice president of the company. Bioyouth-EGT was developed by the fermentation of Hericium erinaceum and Tricholoma Matsutake mushrooms via a process that increases the yield of L-ergothioneine (EGT). This sulfur-containing derivative of the amino acid histidine is described as a uniquely stable antioxidant and cytoprotective agent.
