New R&D Facility, Seminars, and More Beauty Ingredient News and Launches for Late August 2013

Croda Inc. announced its upcoming fall personal care e-seminar series will unveil a new format for the season, connecting its events within the framework of the future trends identified in the first event. On September 12, 2013 Croda’s trends expert Christophe Toumit will kick off the four-event series with “Understanding the Multi-Faceted Woman,” a presentation exploring three new beauty trends that are shaping the personal care market. This presentation will set the framework for three subsequent events focusing on the multi-faceted woman and her position in the personal care market.

Kemin dedicated a new, state-of-the-art research and development facility at its corporate headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa, revealing an open-concept layout and 1,215 feet of linear research bench space as requested by the company’s scientists and researchers. The $16.7 million, 46,300-square-foot Molecular Advancement Center includes two general labs, six shared labs, three pilot labs, a sensory lab, a test kitchen and a personal care application research lab. In addition to providing ample bench space, the building encourages collaboration, creativity and innovation.

Sabinsa will hold a day-long science summit near Salt Lake City on September 17, 2013 for the company's customers. The topics presented at Sabinsa on Wheels will include the latest clinical studies conducted on Sabinsa’s proprietary supplement ingredients and a glimpse of new, innovative products to be offered for exclusive licensing in later 2013, as well as observations by two noted industry experts.

Sorrento Therapeutics and Lonza announced a non-exclusive research license agreement for access to Lonza’s GS Xceed Gene Expression System. The system will be used in the generation of stable expression cell lines for the production and development of therapeutic antibodies in Sorrento’s product portfolio.

Presperse was granted U.S. Patents for two of its products: SiClone SR-5 and SiClone TD 150. The main focus of these ingredients is their non-silicone based compositions, and both products can be utilized in skin care products, color cosmetics, pharmaceutical products and especially in UV-attenuating formulations such as sunscreens and tanning lotions.

Symrise BioActives and Gee Lawson are extending a cooperation agreement that began in 2011, in which Symrise BioActives manufactures highly purified esculin that Gee Lawson supplies to the diagnostics industry. Esculin is used in microbiology culture media to reliably identify contamination.

From October 9–11, 2013, BASF will be taking part in the 60th Sepawa Congress in Fulda, Germany, at booths 200-202 and 250-254. The congress is a key event for representatives from the cosmetics and perfume industries, as well as detergents and cleaners, offering a communication platform for exchanges between scientific research and industrial practice. Technical and marketing experts from BASF will also be taking part in the European Detergents Conference and the Forum for Innovation, addressing their latest concepts as well as trends and key topics within the industry, such as sustainable development throughout the value chain.

DKSH Business Unit Healthcare signed an agreement with ELCA, an affiliate of The Estée Lauder Companies, to provide distribution and logistics services for the online business of ELCA’s Clinique and Bobbi Brown brands in Thailand. Under the partnership, ELCA is hosting and marketing the websites and online shops for their luxury skin care, makeup and fragrance brands in Thailand, while DKSH manages logistics and inventory management as well as gift wrapping, personalized gift carding and distribution to end consumers.

Horn announced its business unit formerly known as Horn Essentials has been renamed Horn Care Elements. Horn Care Elements offers specialty ingredients and formulary solutions for industries including personal care, hair care, skin care, cosmetics, fragrances and more.

Andrew Shearer joined Chemsil Silicones, Inc. filling the position of director of quality control and regulatory. For the past four years, Shearer worked at John Paul Mitchell Systems as both a quality control manager and R&D chemist.

New Launches

Induchem created an anti-aging active to maintain and activate receptors in the skin to regulate cell differentiation, migration and proliferation. The ingredient, Rubixyl, helps restore epidermis proteins affected by aging, helping to reinforce the skin barrier and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It can be used in eye care products, wrinkle treatment products, mature facial care, neck care products, restructuring body care, and products for daily aggression protection.

Sensient launched two ingredients that improve the shine and gloss of lipsticks, glosses and more due to their refractive natures. The ingredients, SensiCrystal and Crystal Wax, can be used independently or together. Crystal Wax is a combination of waxes, polymer and esters that can be used in regular lipsticks to improve color vibrancy and shine on the lips, or for transparent sticks. SensiCrystal is a combination of polymer and esters that also improves shine in lipsticks, glosses and balms.
