On May 20 and 21, 2025, the American Cleaning Institute (ACI) led two events for member companies to address congressional offices about the importance of innovative products and chemistries for the industry. More than one hundred people attended the event, titled “Innovative Chemistries for a Cleaner America.”

“The focus is helping everyone understand the value of chemistry in our daily lives,” said Congressman John Moolenaar (R-MI), co-chair of the Congressional Chemistry Caucus.

ACI’s advocates lobbied for support on legislative changes to the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) as well as retaining the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Safer Choice Program.

“We aim to work with Congress on targeted changes to TSCA to maintain American leadership in global chemical innovation,” said ACI director of governmental affairs Blake Nanney. “We must foster greater science-based, speed-to-market and predictability for the ability of new cleaning products that help everyday American consumers. Safer Choice is also one of those uniquely impactful federal programs that help both consumers and businesses while driving innovation. It’s a strong example of how businesses and the government can collaborate to create meaningful market benefits.”

ACI members spoke with thirteen congressional offices on these issues. Participating companies include BASF, Givaudan, IFF, Procter & Gamble and Unilever.
