Symrise recently announced a strategic investment in Cellibre, a U.S.-based biotechnology company. This partnership aims to accelerate innovation in the taste balancing and cosmetic actives markets through advanced biomanufacturing, per the companies.

Precision Fermentation for Clean Beauty, Expanded Taste Solutions

The collaboration will reportedly leverage Cellibre's precision fermentation platform to develop and commercialize high-value natural ingredients and cosmetic bioactives. This move is designed to expand Symrise's portfolio in taste solutions and clean beauty, meeting the growing consumer demand for natural and responsibly sourced products.

By partnering with Cellibre, Symrise gains access to proprietary technology that enables the scalable production of key ingredients for the food, beverage, cosmetics and nutraceutical industries. This investment is expected to create a more resilient supply chain by reducing dependency on seasonal and agricultural variables.

Cellibre specializes in engineering microorganisms to produce cultured natural products and chemicals. The company's technology has applications in pharmaceuticals, functional health and beauty ingredients.

Strengthening Sustainability, Accelerating Biotech

"This investment accelerates our biotechnology roadmap and strengthens our ability to deliver sustainable, high-quality solutions to our customers," said Imke Meyer, project lead for biotechnology at Symrise.

Ben Chiarelli, CEO of Cellibre, commented, "This partnership represents another external validation of our approach, technology and team, and will leverage the Symrise team’s global market access and deep expertise in flavors, fragrances and cosmetics — creating powerful synergies for both companies."

This collaboration supports Symrise's long-term goal of integrating biotechnology across its operations to enhance resilience, diversify its offerings, and maintain a competitive advantage.
