bareMinerals has launched a new mail-in recycling program, Give Back, Get Back, to "help reduce waste and take the confusion out of recycling empties for consumers," according to the brand.

The program allows consumers in the 48 contiguous U.S. states (excluding California) to send in their used bareMinerals products in return for Good Rewards loyalty points. These points will expand to include beauty products from any brand by 2022. Glass is prohibited from this program; and, until the program expands, only bareMinerals products are accepted at this time.

The free program is being piloted in partnership with specialty recycler g2 Revolution. Participating customers add a recycling mailer to their online order, which is composed of 100% recycled material and features a prepaid return label for the g2 facility in Findlay, Ohio.

At the g2 site, these empties are subjected to a low-emission waste-to-energy conversion into usable energy that reportedly powers about 50% of downtown Indianapolis with non-recyclable waste materials that were diverted from landfills.

“Given the amount of plastic used in the beauty industry, we’re very excited to partner with bareMinerals for a first of its kind mail-in recycling program that allows customers to recycle product packaging from the comfort of their home,” said Tonya Martin, VP of business development at g2 Revolution. “Our initiative fully supports not only the bareMinerals sustainability story but the sustainable beauty movement as a whole by bringing circular solutions for hard-to-recycle cosmetic items directly to consumer’s homes.”
