The two companies plan to cooperate at global beauty exhibitions to expand the use of these PHACT PHA products and accelerate adoption throughout the global market.

The two companies signed a MOU (memorandum of understanding), and a signing ceremony was held on September 16 at the Cosmax Pangyo building in Seongnam City. Officials from both companies attended, including CJ Biomaterials Head Allan (Hyuk-sung) Chung, CJ Biomaterials Business Operations Manager Jung Moo-young, Cosmax R&I Unit Head Kang Seunghyun, and Cosmax R&I PS Lab Head Kim Jung-kyum.

It is third-party certified as industrial and home compostable and is biodegradable in soil and marine environments. CJ Biomaterials has been working to commercialize PHACT PHA through strategic market collaborations. In March, it partnered with Itochu Plastics in Japan to begin entering the Japanese bioplastics market. The company also developed packaging for Olive Young’s Onul Dream same-day delivery service.

He added, “Through close collaboration, we will show an innovative material solution that can reduce the burden on the environment.”
