Credo Beauty

Credo Beauty has announced the introduction of Credo Qualified, a Credo Beauty-managed service market for businesses in the beauty supply chain (including contract manufacturers, raw material suppliers, packaging suppliers, cosmetic chemistry and testing laboratories) who meet its Credo Qualified and The Credo Clean Standard requirements. The venture will partner with Allure Beauty Concepts with plans to scale.

The Credo Clean Standard, a 50-page manifest, offers strict expectations for safety, transparency and sustainability.  Additionally, part of the Credo Qualified approval process is focused on supply chain decarbonization, which will help Credo Beauty and brands to lower Scope 3 emissions and push sustainability in beauty further.

Below are some of the Credo Clean Standard Requirements:

  • Restricted Substances: The Credo Clean Standard contains over 2700 chemicals that the brand prohibits or restricts.
  • Safe Products: Credo guides brands through a variety of raw material and final product testing. Brand partners test for contaminants, heavy metals, preservative efficacy, irritation potential, ocular safety and more.
  • Labeling and Claims: Credo requires all brands to use a consistent naming convention for cosmetic ingredients (INCI).
  • Fragrance Transparency: Brand partners are required to categorize the source of their fragrances and push for a full disclosure of all fragrance ingredients in a product.
  • Sustainable Packaging Guidelines: Credo prohibits single-use materials and is taking bold steps to reduce the use of virgin materials, especially plastic. The brand encourages a holistic approach to choosing packaging and prohibits false claims around recyclability and “green” materials.
