The theme of the 114th Annual Meeting, “A Vision of Beauty Through the Eyes of the Consumer,” reinforced the Council’s commitment to consumers. In 2007, the association launched a consumer information Web site, www.CosmeticsInfo.org, which provides comprehensive, scientific safety information about personal care products and their ingredients. During that time, the association, originally CTFA, also changed its name to the Personal Care Products Council to better reflect the scope of its membership and its commitment to safety, quality, and innovation.
“The Council has undergone an immense transformation in the last several years,” said Pamela Bailey during her speech. “We have taken on greater responsibility and significantly expanded our mission to actively demonstrate our commitment to consumers. This consumer focus has been at the core of our industry for decades, and will be our guiding principle in years to come.”
“I want to extend a special thanks to our chairman, Marc Pritchard,” she continued, “on behalf of our Association, the Board, and all of our member companies, thank you for your leadership and dedication during these past three years of important change.”
Outgoing Chairman Marc Pritchard highlighted the Council’s achievements over the past few years, and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to preside over an organization dedicated and determined to meet the evolving needs of consumers and the companies that serve them.
“Our goal is to be the consumer’s greatest resource when it comes to product safety. The changes we’ve made – the Consumer Information Website, the Consumer Commitment Code, and strengthening the Cosmetic Ingredient Review, show an unparalleled commitment to consumer safety,” said Marc Pritchard.
Newly elected Council Chairman Daniel Brestle is the Chief Operating Officer for The Estée Lauder Companies Inc., where he is responsible for Global Operations and Research and Development for the entire company, and oversees several other brands and divisions.
“I am honored to accept the Council chairmanship, and look forward to working with all of you in the year ahead,” said Daniel Brestle during his inaugural speech. “My first role as Chairman is to recognize and warmly thank Marc Pritchard for his hard work and dedication over the last three years.”
In his speech, Daniel Brestle focused on bolstering consumer confidence, and also stressed the importance of continued self-regulation to supplement the work of the FDA and help ensure product safety while preserving the freedom to innovate. He urged member companies to promote the consumer Web site and remain committed to philanthropic industry initiatives such as the Look Good ...Feel Better program, which helps women deal with the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment.
In addition to the selection of Daniel Brestle as Chairman, the association also elected the following Board of Directors and Officers:
