Broad-spectrum, Safe and Eco-friendly Product Preservation with euxyl® PE 9010

euxyl® PE 9010 ad

euxyl® PE 9010 is a liquid cosmetic preservative designed to boost the preservative activity of traditional phenoxyethanol, especially in natural products where microbes are more apt to grow. Its activity against various bacteria, yeasts and mold enables claims for safe broad spectrum activity in products such as emulsions, wipes and naturals. In addition, the ingredient is supplied through a recyclable system, providing manufacturers with options for greener claims.

Efficacy Testing
The product was tested using a repeat challenge test, which is used to determine the effect of preservatives in cosmetic formulations such as creams, lotions and shampoos. The preservative was added in different concentrations to unpreserved samples and was evaluated on the basis of the microorganism growth on the nutrient media. The longer the time before microbial growth, the more effective the preservative. Emulsions as well as shampoos and bath additives preserved with euxyl® PE 9010 proved to be well-preserved even after three months. These benefits support product claims of stability as well as long-term, broad spectrum effectiveness.

Product and Consumer Safety
euxyl® PE 9010 can be considered safe for the preservation of cosmetics and toiletries. Furthermore, a skin tolerability study showed no difference in tolerability between euxyl® PE 9010 and traditional phenoxyethanol. During the entire test period, no skin reactions were observed even with maximum use concentrations. This skin tolerability test was carried out on Caucasian skin in Germany and on Japanese skin in Japan. These results support claims for safe protection in that the material does not irritate skin.

Greener Claims
Beyond safety and efficacy, the material is supplied in 100-kg containers that are affiliated with a recycling system that guarantees free pick-up and sensible utilization of used containers throughout Europe. The labels are made of PE  and packaging materials contain no PVC; in addition, they are recyclable. These options all provide marketing with greener stories to sell.
