Croda International Plc has announced updated climate goals, externally validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The revised targets incorporate the latest climate science, including land-related emissions (FLAG; see below), to drive more comprehensive greenhouse gas reductions across its operations and value chain. This move is designed to help Croda's customers meet increasing demand for sustainable ingredients.

Validated by SBTi's Net Zero Standard and the Forest, Land and Agriculture (FLAG) Guidance, Croda is set to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Key 2030 Decarbonization Targets for Croda

  • Scope 1 & 2 GHG Emissions: Reduce absolute emissions from its own operations by 42%.
  • Scope 3 GHG Emissions: Reduce absolute value chain emissions (upstream and downstream) by 25%.
  • Scope 3 FLAG GHG Emissions: Reduce absolute land-related emissions upstream by 30.3%.

Phil Ruxton, Croda's chief sustainability officer, commented, “Acting to reduce the impacts of our value chains on planet and society is core to Croda’s purpose. Since launching our Commitment in 2020, we have met our major public milestones, on the way to delivering decarbonization targets aligned with climate science. I am particularly excited that we can now connect our approach to decarbonization with contributing to a nature positive world through the new FLAG target and commitment to deforestation-risk free supply chains for our customers. These validated targets confirm our desire to play our part in transitioning to a low carbon economy."

Ruxton added, “Croda encourages peers, suppliers, partners and other stakeholders to align with climate science through the adoption of net zero science-based targets aligned with 1.5°C, enabling the rapid and deep emission cuts needed to mitigate the effects of a changing climate.”
