Sephora Adds 50+ Chemicals to Clean Chemicals Policy

In 2018, Sephora launched Clean at Sephora and announced it was adding 13 ingredients to its clean beauty "formulated without" list. Fast forward to July 11, 2019, and the beauty retailer has added more than 50 ingredients to the list.

According to an update sent by Ithos Global, this chemical policy works to identify and replace chemicals that do not comply with Sephora's clean standards and disclose intentionally added ingredients. Sephora categorizes products as "clean" if they are formulated without sulfates SLS and SLES, parabens, formaldehyde, phthalates and mineral oils, among others.

Sephora's private label products must adhere to an internal restricted substance list that "goes beyond the 1,300+ ingredients restricted by the E.U.," the retailer explained. In addition, by 2020, Sephora is aiming for 100% of formulated beauty and personal care products to have all intentionally added ingredients listed on the U.S. Sephora.com website.
