The Growing Need for Naturals

On June 7th, 2018, BASF was awarded the Novel Ingredient and Science Award by Natural Products Association for offering the largest selection of NPA-certified ingredients.

NPA’s certification is a set of guidelines that dictate whether a product can be deemed truly "natural." The standard encompasses all cosmetic personal care products regulated and defined by the FDA.

73% of millennial women seek out cleaner, all-natural products.*  With the rise of the indie brands in mainstream beauty stores and on social media channels, the need for natural ingredients in personal care and beauty products in continuously growing.

As an ingredient supplier with one of the largest portfolio of products for the personal care, beauty, and cosmetics industries. BASF’s offerings of natural cosmetics ranges from basic raw materials - like surfactants and emollients - to additives and active ingredients.

TIME FOR CHANGE

Additionally, BASF is committed to responsible sourcing of ingredients and to supporting the communities the ingredients are sourced from.  Earlier this year, BASF announced it will shift its Personal Care portfolio and will offer palm-based specialties for the cosmetics industry exclusively as certified sustainable.

The decision to offer palm-based specialties only as certified in line with the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) ‘Mass Balance’ standard is the latest move in BASF’s initiative ‘Time for Change’. The company has made a commitment to switch about 330 palm-based products to ‘Mass Balance’ standard in the course of 2018 globally. ‘Mass Balance’ (MB) is one of the RSPO supply chain models that foster the physical flow of certified raw materials within the oleo-derivatives supply chain.
