Bernard Marionnaud, founder of the eponymous fragrance and cosmetic retailer, has died. He was 81.

Marionnaud sold off his stake in the company in 1996. He'd opened his first store in 1972, becoming a pioneer in discounted perfumery.

Today, the company has more than 1,000 stores in Europe.
