Shiseido Posts Strong Growth in Q2 2019

Fresh off the announcement of a new Tory Burch beauty licensing deal, Shiseido revealed that it had achieved Q2 2019 net sales of ¥291.0 billion, a year-over-year increase of 8.3%. Top growth sectors were travel (up 25%), China (up 22%), and Europe, and the Middle East and Africa (up 12%). E-commerce was a significant driver in the first half of 2019.

Winning segments included personal care and prestige beauty (both up 14%), cosmetics (up 6%) and fragrance (up 3%). Professional beauty dropped off from 5% growth in Q1 to -2% in Q2.

The top grower for the first half of 2019 was prestige beauty (up 11%).

Operating profit for Q2 totaled ¥30.0 billion a year-over-year gain of ¥6.1 billion, or 25.4%.

Net profit attributable to owners of parent totaled ¥18.9 billion, a year-over-year gain of ¥0.1 billion, or 0.8%.
