CaliSCC Suppliers' Day Buzzes with Upcycling, Ferments, Naturals, Encapsulates and More

The California Society of Cosmetic Chemists' (CASCC's) Suppliers' Day was held Oct. 25 and 26, 2023, at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, CA USA. 4200 Attendees flooded the aisles among some 300+ exhibitors demonstrating the latest in upcycled ingredients, fermented technologies and more.

"Many of the vendors and attendees I spoke to were happy with the show and the interactions they had," shared C&T Adviser Akshay Talati, Pharm.D., of Goop, who attended the event. "Exhibitors mainly featured upcycled ingredients, fermentation technolog[ies], silicone replacements, many natural oils, butters and waxes with functional claims, and ... encapsulation technologies," he noted, adding: "[Also], the after party they threw was amazing."

Talati also commented on the presence of a number of independent formulators, such as Benchmark, Above Rinaldi Labs, Simply Formulas, etc., catering to the indie brands. "[There were also a] lot of product development groups walking around in the mix of chemists."

In addition, as previously reported, the event highlighted keynote presentations on marine extracts, oral care, antioxidant protection, SPF boosting, the skinification of the scalp, leading innovations in skin care, challenges of OTCs, all things green chemistry and more on day one. Day two covered ingredient discovery, career advice, myths and misconceptions in beauty, claims testing, 10 steps to product development, preservative testing, hygiene issues with natural preservation, etc.
