At this year’s Luxe Pack New York, the educational program signals a packaging industry under clear pressure to evolve—from sustainability ambition to operational reality, and from design aesthetics to measurable brand growth.

A headline session, “Refill or Retreat? The Packaging Industry’s Next Big Decision,” captures the current crossroads for refillable systems in North America. While refillable flexible packaging has scaled in Europe and Asia, the U.S. market is now testing its limits, with a mixed record of launches and withdrawals underscoring a central message: refill only works when consumer behavior, cost structures, logistics, and scalable systems align. As Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations tighten and 2030 commitments loom, speakers including The Ellen MacArthur Foundation and L’Oréal’s Kiehl’s division will examine how brands are recalibrating refill strategies from aspiration to execution.

Circularity also takes a more intimate, brand-level lens in the fireside chat “Crafting with Conscience: How Henry Rose is Redefining Luxury Fragrance Through Circular Design.” The session features Henry Rose founder Vinita Jayant in conversation with Monica Becker of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, exploring how certification frameworks function less as endpoints and more as operating systems for continuous innovation. The discussion highlights how transparency, cross-functional alignment, and design discipline are reshaping what “luxury” means in fragrance.

Elsewhere, “Packaging-Led Growth: Demand-Driven Design” reframes packaging as a commercial engine rather than a downstream decision. Leaders from Kenvue, Soft Services, OneSkin, and Papatui will explore how social-first design, refillable formats, and speed-to-shelf agility are enabling brands to capture cultural moments and convert them into sustained consumer engagement.

Finally, “The New Prescription: Wellness Products Designed for Trust, Lifestyle, and Use (Over and Over Again)” reflects a broader convergence of healthcare thinking, industrial design, and consumer branding. The roundtable brings together founders and experts including Jordan Diatlo of Leadoff Studio, doctors-turned-entrepreneurs from Babsy and Soul-A, and packaging perspective from Albéa Cosmetics & Fragrance, underscoring a shared challenge: designing wellness products that are not only functional, but trusted, repeatable, and culturally embedded.

Across sessions, a consistent theme emerges: packaging is no longer a passive vessel. At Luxe Pack NY, it is being repositioned as a strategic system—one that must balance sustainability, scalability, and growth in equal measure.
