Macy's Inc. has appointed luxury beauty executive Alexandre (Alex) Choueiri as chief executive officer of Bluemercury, tapping a veteran of Kering Beauté and L'Oréal to lead the prestige beauty retailer through its next phase of growth.
Choueiri will join the company on August 3, reporting to Olivier Bron, CEO of Bloomingdale's, and will oversee Bluemercury's overall business and growth strategy as the retailer continues to outperform much of the department store sector.
The appointment comes as Bluemercury builds on strong momentum within Macy's Inc.'s portfolio. In the first quarter of fiscal 2026, Bluemercury posted comparable sales growth of 6.4%, outperforming the broader Macy's banner and contributing to another strong quarter for the company's premium businesses. Bloomingdale's reported 10.2% comparable sales growth, marking its seventh consecutive quarter of gains, while Macy's Inc. comparable sales increased 3.0%, exceeding company guidance.
According to Macy's, Bluemercury's recent growth has been fueled by continued strength in dermatological skincare, prestige color cosmetics and fragrance, reinforcing the retailer's positioning as a destination for high-end beauty.
"Alex is a proven global leader with deep beauty expertise and a record of leading complex global organizations," Bron said. "He knows how to inspire teams, build culture and drive results, and I am confident he is ideally suited to build on Bluemercury's momentum and lead its next phase of growth."
Choueiri brings more than 25 years of international beauty experience spanning North America, Europe and Asia. Most recently, he served as CEO and president, Americas, for Kering Beauté, where he led the company's largest regional business, strengthened the market position of luxury fragrance house Creed and helped launch fragrance lines for fashion brands including Bottega Veneta and Balenciaga.
Before joining Kering Beauté, Choueiri spent more than two decades at L'Oréal, holding a series of senior leadership positions, including global president of Ralph Lauren Fragrances. He began his career as a strategy consultant with Bain & Company in France and Australia.
The appointment underscores Bluemercury's growing strategic importance within Macy's Inc., where prestige beauty has emerged as one of the company's strongest-performing categories amid continued consumer demand for premium skincare, fragrance and wellness products.
As CEO, Choueiri will work alongside Bluemercury's leadership team to expand the retailer's prestige beauty authority, accelerate growth and enhance the customer experience across its omnichannel business.
"I am honored to join Bluemercury at such an exciting time in its evolution," Choueiri said. "Bluemercury has earned a loyal following by combining an elevated assortment with personalized service and a highly engaged team culture. I look forward to building on that solid foundation, strengthening our position in prestige beauty and unlocking new opportunities for long-term growth."
The leadership transition signals Macy's continued investment in its luxury retail portfolio as Bluemercury capitalizes on sustained demand for prestige beauty. With comparable sales continuing to outpace much of the broader retail market, the appointment positions the specialty retailer to further expand its influence in one of beauty's most resilient and fastest-growing channels.
